Residents of Windhoek are facing another financial burden, with the City of Windhoek increasing electricity tariffs by an average of 3.6% for the 2026/27 financial year.

The adjustment takes effect today, 1 September 2026, adding further pressure to household and business budgets already strained by rising costs.

The tariff adjustment was made in accordance with the Electricity Act, 2007 (Act 4 of 2007), and approved by the Electricity Control Board (ECB).

According to the City of Windhoek, the increase is necessary to maintain a secure and reliable electricity supply, upgrade infrastructure, meet growing demand and ensure the long-term sustainability of electricity services.

The City says it remains committed to keeping electricity affordable while ensuring that residents, businesses and institutions continue to receive reliable and high-quality electricity services.
