It was added in 1997 as part of the stadium “renovation.” Someone (probably the alum of a rival school) thought it would be a good idea to desecrate a highly visible part of the Notre Dame Stadium locker room by putting a series of pipes in front of the “Play Like A Champion Today” sign.
And what’s even more amazing is that someone at Notre Dame approved it.
At the History Maker Awards Ceremony at the Smithsonian last week.
Receiving this award was a complete surprise for me. My father lived the story. All I did was tell it.
