Cooperative Spirit in Action π€
Every weekend, hundreds of local students face a challenge many families never need to consider: Where their next meal will come from when school cafeterias are closed. Jackson EMC employees volunteered with New Path 1010, a nonprofit based in Barrow County dedicated to helping students facing food insecurity.

Jackson EMC Linemen Volunteer to Bring Electricity to Village in Guatemala π‘
Four Jackson EMC linemen recently joined fellow electric cooperative linemen from across Georgia to bring electricity for the first time to a Guatemalan village where families had never had electricity.
During the 15-day project, the volunteers built more than four miles of electric line, bringing electricity to approximately 55 homes, two schools and two churches in Guadalupe. For the first time, families could flip a light switch inside their homes.
Jackson EMC linemen Brendan Brewer, Ben Brissey, Josh Nix and Alex Solhtalab joined linemen from Cobb EMC, Coweta-Fayette EMC, Flint Energies, Habersham EMC and Walton EMC. Together, the volunteer linemen completed the project through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) International Foundation.
Each day, the linemen traveled more than an hour and half from their hotel in a nearby city to Guadalupe, where local villagers installed more than 55 poles by hand prior to the volunteersβ arrival. The linemen then installed and connected power lines to local homes, churches and schools.

What do linemen do during blue-sky days? βοΈ
Our crews work year-round to provide reliable power to our members. When the weather is calm, there is still plenty of important work to accomplish including planned power pole replacements.
Replacing a power pole can take up to four hours, even on a sunny day. From preparing the work area and safely transferring equipment to setting the new pole and restoring service, each step helps keep our electric system reliable for the community we serve.

Your Energy Questions Answered π
Q: What is SEER2 and how does it affect my decision when choosing a new heat pump?
A: If you're shopping for a new heat pump, you may have noticed that systems now use a SEER2 rating instead of the older SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating. Both ratings measure how efficiently a heat pump cools and heats your home.
