I’ve had three separate companies offer me jobs this year — each one doubling my current state salary after 10 years of service. Alaska’s Governor recently vetoed a pension bill that had passed both the House and Senate. There weren’t enough votes to override it.
Bottom line: With that veto, a lot of young state employees in the current retirement tiers — who still have decades of service ahead — are going to seriously consider those private-sector offers.
Hard to blame them. #Alaska #akleg
On turning 30 today, I reflect on my journey working for the state since I was 18 and highlight some of the construction projects I've worked on! #dirtythirty#fypシ゚viral#alaskalife
My first state disaster response, huge career growth. It really showed me what I'm capable of when I put my mind to it. Volunteering my time and effort felt incredibly rewarding. I learned a ton about the importance of a work ethic in challenging situations. #DisasterResponse
Member Monday 💪
Join us in congratulating our own Brother Jacob Blomker on his well-deserved Outstanding New Responder recognition!
Jacob was recently recognized at our membership meeting after his Business Representative, Richard Lott, shared the incredible work he’s been doing—and we couldn’t wait to celebrate him with the rest of our LIUNA NW family.
From day one, Jacob stepped up without hesitation—volunteering his time, supporting Incident Command operations, making late-night supply runs, moving critical life-safety materials, and showing up early and staying late to make sure the job got done. Now deployed to the Incident Support Base in Bethel, he continues to play a vital role in managing and moving record-breaking amounts of cargo to impacted communities across Alaska.
His work ethic, reliability, and commitment to service embody everything LIUNA stands for. We’re proud to call him a brother and even prouder to celebrate his impact.
👏 Well done, Brother Jacob. Keep leading by example.
Seeing first hand, The devastating aftermath of Typhoon Halong. Generations of family's homes are now frozen in the tundra miles away from Kipnuk. I'll be working on recovery efforts till atleast February. #Alaskastrong#Alaska
I've spent Thanksgiving, Christmas & New years working in Bethel. Being single, sure does help feed the beast that is a workaholic in me. Paying off my loan for my Car and having $0 debt is humbling!
I have volunteered at work to assist with ex-typhoon flood emergency repairs. Happy to spend my Thanksgiving in Western Alaska. 🫡 Kipnuk in 2023.

I have like 2 SD cards of drone photography during my time in Kipnuk in 23'. I'm hopeful people will see the village as it was, before the devastating effects from #TyphoonHalong#alaskastrong
@AKNewsNow Spent a summer of 2023 in Kipnuk.. such a beautiful place didn't deserve this. The community their are some the kindest, hard working people. Here's a reminder of how the village looked before the disaster hit. #alaskastrong
Absolutely devastating to hear the the flooding of Kipnuk and western communities in Alaska. Hearing from the locals loosing everything is painful to hear. My heart aches. Feeling like I should be doing something to help. May God bless all of the Alaskans effected. #Alaskastrong
@AlaskanRants Shitty thing is the their was money obligated to mitigate this flooding for Kipnuk, then the moneys was taken away from the trump administration. So that simple fix could have taken place.
