Elder Kevin R. Duncan used a phrase that I have never forgotten. It is one that we should all remember, as trials and difficulties come into our lives. It is simple, and beautiful.

Sometimes the Savior relieves,
and sometimes He refines.

Both are gifts to us!

When Jesus Christ was in Gethsemane, during what was most likely His lowest point, an angel came to strengthen Him.

To accomplish the Father’s work, He couldn’t be relieved of the pressure, the pain. But He was strengthened in His suffering.

So it is with us. There are things we need to pass through and experience during our time here— hard things, crushing things— there is NO OTHER WAY.

As much as we would love to be relieved, the refinement becomes the greater gift.

While all too often, the thorn can’t be removed, we will NEVER be left without heavenly support during those dark and trying times!

“I will not leave you comfortless⁠: I will come to you.” (John 14:18)

Sometimes we will be relieved.
Sometimes we will be refined.

Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the theme for the upcoming Salt Lake Temple Celebration on the same day reservations were made available for open house tickets.

Speaking from the new temple entrance building north of the Salt Lake Temple on Temple Square, President @UchtdorfDF, acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, called the celebration a historic event that will accompany the reopening of the Salt Lake Temple in 2027 following its extensive, seven-year renovation.

“We invite the world — everyone, hundreds of thousands of people, millions of people,” he said. “We expect 5 million people to come and see and enjoy this wonderful experience — what the temple, the house of the Lord, represents.”
