Teams recently completed build and acceptance testing of our 1,000th Merlin 1D engine for Falcon’s first stage! With Falcon’s reusability, recovering these engines has enabled continued reliability enhancements, making Merlin one of the most reliable rocket engines ever manufactured
We're not rebuilding the same pad for New Glenn. We're moving to a horizontal/vertical hybrid configuration to get us flying again this year at 36A. We were already working on something similar for 9x4 at 36B. Let me explain what that means. We mate the stages horizontally in the Integration Facility (IF). Then we bring the integrated vehicle out to the pad, use a crane to perform the vertical breakover, and mate the payload once New Glenn is vertical. This new ConOps has the added benefit of increasing our flight cadence as well.
600+ feet of crane assembled incredibly fast by the team. We will start pulling down the tower (segment by segment) so we can modify each piece in parallel.
Quite a sight to see the progress this team has made since May 28. Wreckage recovery from start to finish was completed in 9 days, and all debris has been cleared from Launch Complex 36. Huge shoutout to the team who have been working 7x24. We have started reconstruction and still plan to fly again this year. Will have more details on the new conop soon.
Today’s mission includes a demo of a new vehicle that will enable affordable, routine access to the microgravity environment for scientific research and in-space manufacturing. After demonstrating controlled flight, the spacecraft will splash down in the Pacific Ocean
What is with the CZ-9 Propaganda Lately?
CZ-9 is 110m tall total, and CZ-9B is 95m tall. I have no idea where folks are getting 75m height for CZ-9 Reusable booster.
Some LC-36 updates. Now that we’ve had access to the pad and integration facility we can share a bit of good news. The propellant farm, oxygen, liquid hydrogen and LNG tanks are all in good shape. This is good luck because these are very long lead items. The water tower is also good. The big support tower is damaged, but it can be repaired in place rather than torn down and replaced. The booster “Never Tell Me The Odds” and the three GS-2s that were onsite in the integration facility also look good.
I’ve seen some speculation that we might move directly to the 9x4 configuration, but we won’t do that. Rate manufacturing of 7x2 is going well, and we’re going to continue that at pace as planned and store the stages for use. In addition, we had already been working for some time on eliminating our transporter-erector in favor of an alternative vertical conop, and we’ll now go directly to that; so we don’t need a new transporter-erector.
We will fly again before the end of this year. Gradatim Ferociter.
*For All Mankind Sseason 5 spoilers and S6 theories*
I realized I actually love the Soviet Mars-94 design after seeing it again so I decided to look it up some more
I found the real mission patches thinking "cool patch for Sojourner it has Mars on it- wait where is Mars on the Mars-94 patch for such a important *MARS* mission, why does it just have a big star???" (this will make sense in a bit)
But first let's go back to the previous FAM seasons to understand how they do final scenes starting with S1.
S1's ending we pan out from Jamestown showing off more of Shackleton clearly telling us the next season would have more developmet on the Moon (that was S2's entire theme).
S2's ending shows us going from Earth to Jamestown on the Moon but tricks you as it goes past Jamestown and flies to Mars with the first bootprints. (Mars was the main theme for S3).
S3's ending was nothing of note (you can stretch the speech talking about the Mayflower searching for a new world finding a new home into Mars-94 being about a new solar system but I doubt it)
S4's ending shows Dev looking up while the camera pans to the resource rich asteroid teasing resource processing (S5 we see Mars massively developed after they fought for it)
NOW the final scene for S5, the camera moves from Saturn going past the rings tricking you before panning to a star, after showing the star we see Mars-94 get rebooted an a message in Russian translating to "Detection of GW" I think this means Gravitonal Waves as the ship enters the gravitional pull of this new star triggering some automated system.
This star despite appearing large in frame is very dim and has a hint of blue while our Sol normally appears bright and yellow in FAM, Mars-94 had to have been a coverup for an unmanned mission to another star system. Something else that may support this is Irina Morozova in Ep 10 telling Aleida that the Soviet's basically have some secret ring for spaceflight that wants to find life, clearly something under the wraps could've happened before.
Let me know what you guys think of this theory, I might be insane who knows lol
We have regained some access to Launch Complex 36 and are actively investigating the hotfire anomaly. We will start clearing the pad soon and have a good rebuild plan in place. The booster and GS2s in the integration facility appear healthy from quick looks.
