🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia’s escape from Hormuz runs straight into Ansarallah’s embargo

Saudi Arabia sharply increased crude exports through Yanbu on the Red Sea since the war began, Loadings hit roughly 4.7 million barrels per day around July 13, up from about 760,000 before the war, according to Signal Ocean data reported by Reuters.

Industry sources say the port is now running at or near its operational ceiling, and with the pre-war Saudi exports estimated at about 6 million bpd via Hormuz closed due to the war, the bulk of Saudi crude exports now depend on the Red Sea route.

But the workaround creates a new chokepoint: most Very Large Crude Carriers loading at Yanbu are too big for the Suez Canal to the north, so they must sail south through the Bab al-Mandab, the narrow passage between Yemen and Djibouti.

That is the same route Yemen’s Ansarallah declared closed to Saudi shipping on Monday, announcing a maritime embargo under what it called a blockade-for-blockade equation.

Two Palestinians were killed in the occupied West Bank on Sunday night as the world was busy watching the World Cup Grand Final between Spain and Argentina.

Abdel Rahim Ouda Farakhna, 53, and Ahmed Adel Rashid Abu Makhw, 26, were both killed when settlers, with the support of Israeli forces, attacked their village of Deir Jarir, east of Ramallah.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said the two men were killed by Israeli gunfire, and several others were injured.

Israeli forces and settlers have intensified their attacks in the occupied West Bank since October 2023, killing at least 1,181 Palestinians, injuring 13,000 and arresting nearly 24,000, according to official Palestinian figures.
