Capcom removed The Enigma Protector from the PC version of Resident Evil 4 Remake 🖥️
Today Capcom released a silent patch of approximately 77 MB for the Steam version of Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023), which completely removes The Enigma Protector DRM. The change was not officially announced or mentioned in the patch notes, being detected by the community through SteamDB and file analysis.
About 28 days ago (early February 2026), the company had replaced Denuvo Anti-Tamper with The Enigma Protector, a DRM developed by a Russian company. This decision generated considerable controversy, as the new system caused significant performance issues: FPS drops between 10% and 50%, lower GPU utilization, stuttering, longer load times, and frame time instability. It also affected the Steam Deck and broke some popular mods, and it was observed that pirated versions without DRM performed better than the official version.
The community responded with strong rejection, including negative reviews on Steam and complaints on forums, Reddit, and X (Twitter). Analysis from sites such as Digital Foundry confirmed the impact on performance, while gamers and modders detected the presence of Enigma using tools such as Detect It Easy.
With the removal of this DRM, game performance has been restored to previous or even better levels, and Enigma is no longer mentioned on the Steam page. Although Capcom has not publicly explained the reason for the addition and subsequent removal of the DRM, community pressure is believed to have been the determining factor.

World's First Resident Evil "Anthology" Speedrun. 27 unique games, 34 categories, all main scenarios.
This was a MASSIVE undertaking, but I'm proud of myself for committing to it. Thanks to everyone who supported me throughout this project. See you on the 26th <3
@Okami13_ Are you fucking serious? You're telling me that the original idea was that Skyim was meant to be the first of a trilogy leading up to a second great war with the Thalmor? And instead we got Fallout 76 and Starfield.... I hate this timeline.
I’m excited to be developing SLEEPING DOGS with @SimuLiu , We both are hungry and passionate about the material & have plenty to prove.
Its no secret that both TNCFU & The Shadow Strays took inspiration from Sleeping Dogs, heck I even based a character in TSS straight outta SD down to his name .
This will take time, but we’ll make the best version out of it, Cleaver , chopsticks n all.
