So does this Supreme Court judge want @MahuaMoitra to take bullets? What kind of motormouth persons have we appointed as judges? Is this the judicial temperament we expect of constitutional court judges? This is why we need to fix judicial accountability.

The statement is condemnation worthy. Especially when you know about the dire state of affairs in Bengal. If tomorrow anything happens to Ms. Moitra, this bench led by Justice Dipankar Datta will be responsible. He should be ashamed of his conduct. In any functional democracy, such judges would’ve been compelled to resign or be impeached!

If I were the Prime Minister of India, this would be my address to the students:

My dear students and young citizens,

I speak to you today not as Prime Minister, but as someone who must listen when the youth feel unheard.

I understand your fear that education no longer guarantees jobs. Your frustration is real and so are your questions. I also realise that this isn’t just about one resignation but the pent up frustration that needs large scale reforms:

Immediately, my government is taking the following steps:

1. I mourn the tragic loss of 18 young lives linked to the NEET crisis. No examination failure can ever be worth a student’s life. I am sorry.

2. I apologise to every student who faced a lathi charge while peacefully protesting. The alleged use of pellet guns, the lorry carrying stones near the protest site and every instance of excessive force will be investigated and those found guilty will be punished.

3. We need to increase our investment in education. I commit that Public investment in education will rise by 0.5 percentage points of GDP every year for the next ten years.

4. We will publish transparent data on employment, vacancies, recruitment delays. Even IITs having a 28% vacant positions and Central universities having 26% unfilled vacancies is alarming.

5. We will work hard on creating the promised 2 crore jobs each year. Job creation in private sector is a must. We will soon come up with fiscal policies that encourage and incentivise job creation. I am setting up a committee to make recommendations.

I will not ask you to remain silent. Question us, challenge us and hold us accountable. I promise that my government will approach everything that troubles you with an open mind.

Looking forward to remaining engaged on your issues till they get resolved.

Let no other talk distract you from the fact that pellet guns, electric shock batons, tear gas lathis with rusted nails were used to attack a march of peaceful young Indians asking for a better education system, in the national capital.

An AK-47 gun was used to disperse another such protest in Bihar.

Union Ministers lied to the country about it, while all of this was shown largely by independent and global media, and via social media.

And now the regime is behind young content creators who put up stories and reels that exposed this brutality of the regime to the world.

School and college students were detained- some even from their homes, women faced some dirty behaviour from some individuals who are yet to be suspended.

Peaceful protesters have been manhandled, prohibited from speaking out against the education system and the regime, across most parts of the country.

Some pro bjp handles have put up silly videos dissing the young generation, even trying to attract abuse to young people who made reels only asking the regime to come out and talk.

And Andhbhakts have, as per their upbringing, abused women and threatened young people.

None of the attempts by the regime to be seen on any social media medium and interact with anybody will make up for this.

There are 3 kinds of journalism:

Independent — BBC: publicly funded, but editorially independent.
Partisan — CNN and Fox: different ideological lenses.
Sell-out — journalism that serves power instead of questioning it.

India seems to have pioneered the third category. Much of its mainstream media no longer holds power accountable. It sells the narrative of whoever holds the leash.

That’s not journalism. That’s PR.
