@hollyybean It’s why I choose to think she (at least in part) chose to name Rhaegal after Rhaego, not just Rhaegar. She did say the names are about the people the gods took from her and specifically says Rhaegar, but it seems she mourns her son more than the brother she never knew.
@collectortreas1 Hits it right on the nose. I think all of these changes described left me with feeling like “okay this is/could be interesting” at first and then by the time the pay of for them is supposed to hit you’re like “yeah but that’s not the point/that’s not what they should want”.
@TheSpaceSoviet AND THEN he decides to be better. He’s not the GOAT like some say, he’s the best proof that there’s never a bad reason to try and be better, even if people (strangers and your closest allies/family) will hate you for the rest of your life.
@TheSpaceSoviet no matter what SO he, as a 15-17 year old, decided he’d just be the villain anyway. Which makes his decision to try and be better in feast even more compelling IMO. He was so defeatist ever since that moment so he became what they were always gonna think he was…
@MaceAhWindu It’s better than Cersei’s Sept bombing & Emma is amazing, i still like Nyra in F&B more tho. Loosing her mind over gods/smallfolk she didn’t previously care for isn’t bad in a vacuum. But her losses and betrayals impacted her differently in the book, she betrayed her movement.
@bryndensraven Ormund being an egocentric misogynist fanatic is more interesting than in F&B, but isnt that supposed to be the Shepard? I also like show Daeron but he acts best as a parallel to Jace imo, and since he burns Bitterbridge they become a clear example of the dance’s double standards
@theweirdinggay 2/2 i find my reaction to seeing references & beats from feast n dance in this show is “that’s kinda cool!” And my reaction to the many thematic and practical changes from F&B is “man…what’s the logic behind trying to say this instead of what the book is saying?”
@theweirdinggay I love Feast, Dance, and F&B so dearly. I don’t personally want you to hate Condal by any means, but I do think it’s a bit weird to be praising someone more than criticizing them for… adapting the wrong stories 1/2
@fromavalon45656@bhangbhangducx I’m saying the fact that George wrote one of them burning BB while the other didn’t is supposed to say smthing abt the larger argument of double standards. Maybe Jace would’ve burned BB down too, idk. But GRRM wrote two very similar characters w one major difference for a reason
@bhangbhangducx … The difference is that Daeron burns Bitterbridge, yet another example of Aegon’s side being just as evil, if not more evil, than Rhaenerya’s. Yet only one gets remembered as ‘the cruel’ and is later blamed for starting the dance.
@bhangbhangducx He and Jace are great comparisons & their one major difference adds to the theme of double standards in the Dance. He & Jace are both seen as good kids that are thrown into war yet do honorably by their cause and then die unceremoniously….
@agneswickfields I’m not so sure the “I need help, Alys” and “you’re not the player but a piece on the board” Daemon would, like a week later, be all ‘well this vision means we’re destined to save the world & be gods’. it fits his character pre-HH, but not post HH
@bryndensraven And let me be clear like I think you make an excellent point that people expect way to much “good point/bad point” binary thinking in scenes like these. But two characters can be acting understandable hypocritical & it’s still worth asking… why take this angle?
@bryndensraven Exactly they arent the same, which is why this show’s writing of her is open to at least SOME criticism. When you adapt a story where the protagonist is a woman who looses everything due to the world around her and you change how that happens, it begs the question.. why?
