Today, we are recognizing Navy veteran and retired Florida law enforcement officer Donna Michaels.
After experiencing the lasting effects of trauma from her service and hitting a breaking point that almost cost her life. With the support of fellow veterans, she began sharing her story through a book she published and podcast interviews. The positive response led Donna to create “Heroes United to Heal Foundation,” a 501c3 that provides resources to help first responders and veterans heal privately without jeopardizing their careers.
Donna has a goal to raise $50K for two retreats in Montana this fall that will accommodate 12 Heros and 4 staff members. In addition to this endeavor the foundation is also looking for a sponsor to attend National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial in DC in May. This event will allow them to connect with many law enforcement officers, leadership and supporters.

Defenders of Freedom offers a solution to Veterans who struggle with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). This signature wound of post 9/11 Veterans is grossly neglected. It has gone undiagnosed and untreated in many Veterans we have worked with over the years. The team at DOFFL offers treatment for veterans that experienced brain injuries as well as morale building events.

Today, I am recognizing Marine veteran Paula Sarlls who is President of the USMC Memorial Foundation. Did you know about the USMC Memorial in Golden, CO that honors Marines of all Eras that have worn or will serve wearing the iconic “Eagle, Globe, and Anchor.” This memorial is going through a planned remodel that will soon make the Rocky Mountain region refer to Our United States Marine Corps Memorial as the “The Jewel in the Crown that is “Golden.”
