Right now I am thinking of the more than 300,000 city employees who got up this morning and showed up to work, committed to educating our kids, keeping our streets clean, and doing the work it takes to keep NYC moving.
In times of crisis, count on the workers.
Imagine if our city had a 3,775% increase in the education budget. Or the housing agency's budget. Or funding for mental health care.
Had to fight to keep libraries open, our schools have been defunded, we can't get HPD to enforce the law, but 3,775% increase for NYPD overtime.
If this is the claim the mayor is going to use for shooting someone in the head in an escalation that started out over a $2.90 fare evasion and shooting in a crowded subway, hitting bystanders, it's time to release the body cam footage.
Please understand, NYC is spending more than 10 TIMES the amount of the lost fares to try to collect those fares through excessive policing. The main problem is that ppl are poor & the subway should be free. If we stop wasting money on things like this, we could just make it free
Let me get this straight: the NYPD opened fire on the subway yesterday in an attempt to stop a man who evaded the $2.90 fare (?), and in the process they ended up shooting him, 2 bystanders, and another cop?

Research shows that people tend to become more civically engaged after a shock like a major hurricane. For Daniel Aldrich, losing his worldly possessions to Katrina did something similar.
