@PolitlcsUK If we want a land tax why not do it based on area of land owned, eg £x per square metre of land you own. Gets round valuation issues, is already known by the land registry and if you can afford to own more land you pay more! Simples!

@richiehadley @MartinSLewis @ofgem The standing charge is meant to cover the fixed costs of the network. The population density in the southern areas is higher therefore the fixed costs are split.over more people and so.are lower... or so the logic goes.

@PolitlcsUK @guardian Not that I particularly like Trump, but admire his ability to deal with their own border issue. Put tariffs on Mexico unless they stop the migrants.
We pay France to try and stop, they dont. Maybe it's time to take a leaf out of Trumps book? Tariffs on Brie and champagne?
