@markgurman @UKZak Most people don’t use ADP. Messages in iCloud sync is encrypted by default & requires a trusted device passcode to unlock in new device. But iCloud backup contains the unlock keys to messages in iCloud and “could” allow downloading of messages if the passcode was ever forgotten

@UKZak The vulnerability is that if you also enable iCloud backup because it contains keys that can access Messages in iCloud data. It’s helpful for the user in case they forget their previous device’s passcode.

@UKZak Your article about technical features contains technical errors and false claims. You should read official documentation instead of guessing or relying on 2nd hand info. iMessage in iCloud (synched) is encrypted by default. It’s encryption is independent of Apple ADP.
