Boarding my flight back to Warsaw after a busy and productive week in Washington, D.C.
Over the past few days, I had the privilege of meeting policymakers, congressional and senate staff, think tank experts, diplomats, and friends of Poland from across the American political spectrum.
Three conclusions stand out.
First, Poland is viewed in Washington as a serious ally. Our defence spending, military modernisation, and understanding of the Russian threat are noticed and appreciated.
Second, America increasingly expects initiative from its allies. Not simply requests, but leadership, responsibility, and ideas.
Third, influence is built through relationships. Patiently, consistently, over years.
I am returning home with many valuable conversations behind me, many follow-ups ahead of me, and an even stronger conviction that Poland has a unique opportunity to strengthen its position within the transatlantic community.
My sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to meet this week.
Until next time, Washington.
Back to Warsaw. The real work starts now. 🇵🇱🤝🇺🇸
Just bought a return flight in the UK for £70. 50 mins on the air each way. The train journey would have cost 8x as much and taken 6 hours each way. Make of that what you will. 🧐
If you like reading about spies, the real ones that is, you should love Sean Wiswesser's 'Tradecraft, Tactics, and Dirty Tricks'. This book is fascinating, and written with warmth and wit. Strong recommend from me.
‘Sorry I was reaching for plausible-sounding titles and don’t actually have information these specific memoirs exist.’ Claude, when I couldn’t find its police memoirs recs on Amazon.🤨
@Wiswesser@ForeignPolicy Russian failure is often a surprise when it happens. The fall of the USSR. The initial attack on Ukraine in 2022. When crises are rumoured to be in the pipe, they don't often seem to play out.
Short clip below from today’s SpyTalk with me…on the Prigozhin Mutiny and what it was REALLY about…and how/who in the RIS would have responded if he went further…
🚨Let’s not kid ourselves what that short-lived mutiny really was and what it meant, as captivating as it was to watch…see below!

I’m using Chat GPT for the simple task of logging my weight every morning. Today I accidentally entered the wrong number - 100kg more than the one I’d seen on the scales.
ChatGPT: Great milestone, nice work. It’s a strong sign your system is working.
AI: a bit too much explanation in this line of dialogue
Writer: well this is one character explaining something to another character
AI: that’s great push back
And they say these tools will replace editors.
In the last month I’ve had several people send me “their” writing work only to realise on reading it’s AI prose
Every time I’ve started reading with interest, only to realise and feel queasy. Like biting into what looks like juicy steak, and finding it’s made of plasticine 🤢
