@Visionary_Mike If you’re idea of “masculinity” is so fragile that shit like painted nails or wearing certain colors like pink fucks it up…
sounds like you got some personal shit to work out… maybe gain a lil confidence 🤷🏻♂️
@MaryanneY213@TheCardNoob@SaadYousuf126 I mean Obama wasn’t crying that he needs a super expensive juiced up ballroom bunker because it’s so dangerous to go to a dinner or event he doesn’t care about… including skipping a kids wedding, but then did an about face to attend a Finals game.
So yeah, Obama’d be fine 👍🏻
@ChristopherKaiX@Variety Tom Holland: “I want SM films to not just be action slop or hastily tossed together. I’d like to model it after one of the most talented and meticulous directors working today.”
Some Douche on Twitter:
“Primadonna!”
@kyukitsuragi@belladonnafeli Oh 100%, people focus on Wish Nikki’s escalation because it’s so obvious…
but the way Bear stays essentially the same as things escalate around him is a wild “escalation” on its own because he’s so blatantly ignoring signs that something is wrong and this isn’t “Nikki”
@Curiosity_201@belladonnafeli I think it’s just worded poorly… because the whole gift sequence highlights his lack of confidence and subtle signs of how much he still doesn’t really know/get Nikki.
He starts with intent to get a meaningful replacement necklace, can’t figure it out, pivots to joke, then bails
@PaulTassi@Forbes Don’t love the “angle” with the article title… but it *was* effective…
Most interesting thing to me on there was the We Bury the Dead score! I didn’t hear a Thing about it when it came out and assumed it was DoA, good to note!
@belladonnafeli The “villain” question is a fun/interesting convo but distracting some from the point that he has problems from the start (that’s fine) and it’s the selfishness and lack of accountability & care for Nikki’s wellbeing shown consistently through the movie that becomes cruel.
@cinemattie You are missing the blatant fact that “wish Nikki” isn’t Nikki… you’re conflating the OG character with the thing she is turned into. It’s not “her”.
I think it’s ok to say it’s not entirely feminist, in the sense that I think the movie is more about toxic relationships.
@GwenLovesMovies Misogynistic? Very interesting take considering Bear is the character that is most “human” and in control… and consistently makes selfish and harmful choices… like a villain.
Feels more about unhealthy relationships and how they impact both parties
**#Obsession spoilers**
Post wish, Bear makes choices that escalate from “Probable Deniability” to Despicable. But often without much callouts or attention, until he’s called out directly by Ian who notes others think she seems mentally ill and being taken advantage of (she is).
@MAXHALO369@vikku60879 I’d say it has broader themes in terms of couples, power dynamics, and the kind of unhealthy things that exist in unhealthy relationships.
My first marriage was a mess and I saw myself in both Bear & Nikki at times, same for my ex.
We both “made a wish” on each other.
@PtheCakes@vikku60879 He was given the option to cancel and chose not to…
But I’d recommend you look back to the second act of the movie where he sees her being wildly unstable and everyone around him noting she is clearly fucked up and it looks like he’s taking advantage of her…. CUZ HE IS!
@TopKek31406947@vikku60879@TobyTurner Better analogy: getting sticks to rub together, being nervous to actually rub them, pouring gasoline on it instead, tossing a match, and standing frozen as the flames start burning all the chairs around the fireplace and waiting until 2-3 are dead to try and hop on the flames
@TopKek31406947@vikku60879@TobyTurner So skipping the entire second act of the film where Bear sees her covered in shit/piss/vomit among other weird behavior (and the sleeping “kill me” bit) as well as everyone pointing out she seems mentally ill and he’s taking advantage… like cmon you’re not even trying
@TobyTurner@vikku60879 My man there were myriad red flags and opportunities for him to make better choices for Nikki (who he supposedly loved) and instead he was consistently focused on himself.
He could’ve cancelled the wish and chose not to, attempted suicide after it all collapsed 🤦♂️.
@vikku60879 Wild how many people are missing key things the movie is showing/sharing about Bear and him being basically willfully ignorant and then willfully lazy in actually being any kind of caring or loving partner or even friend to Nikki…
Crazy levels of copium
@Tomaswept I think to your point it’s more interesting to extrapolate and view how this speaks to many modern relationships.
There are many with a similar power dynamic of man dominating woman, but there are also plenty where a couple are both Bear & Nikki at different times.
@GarrettPetersen Love how they pose the question then every response someone gives they just go “guarantee women would still hate it” cuz he’s clearly just a misogynistic pos and the point is they’ve already determined the answer for all women because he’s a great thinker of thinks 🙄
@Pseudo_nym75@LikelyHughMann@N_Schmid@unusual_whales That’s it? Chromosomes?
Ok, cool. You’re still a bigoted piece of shit who derives satisfaction from assumed frustration you cause people online… you’re like a lvl 2 villain. Congrats on those life goals sport ✌🏻
