As extreme weather events occur with more frequency, we must do more to strengthen our infrastructure and protect lives and property.
Today I will hold a news conference to announce that I am asking the legislature to adopt a bill taking steps to make Connecticut more resilient.
DEEP and EPA applauded today’s signing of an MOU between the City of Hartford and MDC that outlines terms of compliance for how stormwater is managed in the city. Deputy Commr Emma Cimino on why this is so important for the health and safety of residents and the environment:
State Emergency Management officials continue to work alongside @CTDEEPNews and local municipalities to assist with the brush fire response statewide. This afternoon, forestry personnel conducted a controlled burn in Andover to prevent further spread of an overnight brush fire.
♻️ Recycling saves resources AND creates jobs! In a single year, recycling & reuse activities in the U.S. supported 681,000 jobs & generated $37.8 billion in wages. That’s 1.17 jobs for every 1,000 tons of recycled material! Talk about a win-win for the economy & the environment.

DEEP & the CT Mosquito Management Pgrm warn residents that the risk of mosquito-borne diseases like EEE & West Nile virus remains high. EEE has recently been detected in Farmington, Manchester, & a horse in Fairfield Cty, with EEE-positive mosquitoes found in 11 towns statewide.
🦟 Mosquitoes carrying Eastern Equine Encephalitis (#EEE) have recently been detected at collection sites in Manchester & Farmington, marking the furthest west they've been found so far this season.

🚨 EEE Virus has been detected in CT wildlife!
DEEP reports that there has been a case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in a white-tailed deer in Lisbon. While rare in wild mammals, this confirms the presence of EEE in mammal-biting mosquitoes.
