Rails by itself is great, but everything around it is designed like I would want it to be if I were to whiteboard it. There is SOOO much value in consistency. Companies try to achieve this through documentation but it doesnโt work like that.
Of course, some people know they wouldn't be good managers so I'm NOT saying everyone should go out and be a manager. But if you're on the fence, I'd try it out in as low risk way as you can.
A fallacy that seems to be common in software engineering management, is that technical acumen decreases as a manager. I found the exact opposite to be true.
Essentially, this is my way of encouraging people to not be afraid of management. You'll grow technically and personally at a far greater rate than as an individual contributor.
