@daveshepperd2@DeansOfCardiff They need good jobs and the freedom to choose not to drive. Car dependency perpetuates poverty, st Mellons is poor but owns more cars than average. They spend lots of rheir income on cars as other options are poor. They need improved public transport, walking and cycling.
@daveshepperd2@DeansOfCardiff Well that is an innovative sector, they have obviously seen how best to keep their costs down. Hopefully that can spread to the rest of the workforce.
@daveshepperd2@DeansOfCardiff No that's not true, average car ownership in st Mellons is 1
4 which is significantly higher than the wales average of 1.2. Again, dont ride your bike if you are taking ladders to a roofing job, maybe do ride your bike if you are heading to do a shift at subway.
@daveshepperd2@DeansOfCardiff About half of car journeys are short with 1 person in the car. Of course we can't replace all car journeys with bikes but we can do some. Maybe this means a household can get by with 1 less car.
@daveshepperd2@DeansOfCardiff Na used to work in st Mellons. I know the area well. I guess you are comparing a brand new ebike to a really old car. You could get a used ebike but even if you did get a new 1k new ebike vs a free car you would still easily spend more than 1k on tax, mot, insurance, & repairs.
@daveshepperd2@DeansOfCardiff I used to live in cardiff and work in st Mellons. I live in neath now, we have some serious hills and sure they are tough but a ebike makes them easy.
@asianick85@BennyH391512@Defo_not_Dave@adamtranter There's loads of people on queen Street where are you on about. Yeah sure capitol centre isn't doing so good but that's just not as good as st David's and has struggled to compete with it since it opened. St David's has 35+ million shoppers a year.
WE NOW HAVE A YEAR OF DATA SINCE 20MPH WAS INTRODUCED IN WALES
There were around 100 fewer people killed or seriously injured on 20/30mph roads.
The number of casualties in 2024 from July-Sept was the lowest Q3 figures in Wales since records began.
Over the year since it came in the number of casualties on roads affected by the law is 28% lower than the year before.
This is good policy making.
