University of Wisconsin @BadgerFootball long snapper @JamesRoe73 made the trip to Eau Claire to chase perfection.

After transferring in from Toledo, James is stepping into a new system where protection is a real priority. He came in wanting to clean up his movement patterns to create a faster, more consistent snap and improve his ability to block.

With the way he used to snap, his follow through was very deep, which made it tough to transition quickly into protection. In this scheme, that split second matters. So we’ve been focused on controlling his body, tightening up the movement, and helping him snap with efficiency so he can get into his block faster without sacrificing ball speed.

One of the biggest shifts for him has been learning to slow down. Most guys try to snap as aggressively as possible to create speed. But when you move smooth and build from slow to fast, you actually create more consistency and often more velocity. Efficiency wins.

James has been making serious progress every session. Each time we meet, we’re able to layer in a little more.

Excited to keep building with him and continue chasing perfection.

He’s improved breaking coverage blocks & had a key fumble recovery. As team’s key on his downfall coverage speed, his ability to break these blocks allows him to be a defensive weapon downfield.

University of Toledo @ToledoFB LS @JamesRoe73 made the trip to Eau Claire Wisconsin to chase perfection!

During our initial evaluation we noticed that he struggled to control his body. James made a comment about wanting more consistency and while watching his original snap he really dropped his torso and would push through. Anytime snappers try to reach as deep through their legs as possible there will always be more push than punch. Your body won’t hit as consistent of positions and you will even lose ball speed.

We put a ton of attention on his ability to hit a good crunch and create stability through his follow through.

We made a lot of progress but it’ll take time to make the adjustments permanent. We are going to work consistently virtually and will see things start to click over time!
