On March 2, 2026, 25-year-old Karma Davis suffered a seizure in her Illinois home and woke to discover her family dog had torn away much of her face.

Davis, who has epilepsy, believes forgetting her medication that day triggered the seizure.

While she was unconscious, the family’s pit bull, Fayzo, mauled her.

Both of her lips were gone.

Much of her left cheek and the bottom of her nose had been torn away, her left ear was badly disfigured, and her right ear was partially ripped off.

When Davis regained consciousness, she found her iPad and video-called her fiancé, Trenton.

That was when she realised how badly she had been injured.

“Fayzo ate my face,” she remembered repeating. “I look like a skeleton. My lips are gone.”

Davis was rushed to hospital and placed in a medically induced coma for around two and a half days while surgeons began reconstructing her face.

Doctors managed to reattach much of her right ear, but she has required multiple surgeries, skin grafts and a feeding tube while facing a long reconstruction process.

The family had rescued Fayzo from an abusive home around four years earlier, and Davis said the dog had never previously shown aggression.

Animal control euthanized him after the attack.
