@SawyerMerritt@globeandmail …But apart from all those things, what has Elon Musk ever done for us?
Well it’s safer to walk the streets with his self driving cars about!
OK, apart from…. :-)
@seektruthfromfx@QuibbleUK No. I’m just saying they should make there 100k widgets and put the appropriate manual in the box or attach to the outside when it is sent to a country.
You could make the argument that we have four too many governing bodies 😉 None of them seem particularly effective these days or follow the will of the people but rather their own self interest.
Maybe we need Magna Carta 2.0 to reduce the powers of all these political bodies and make them focus on the fundamentals of the country(s):
1. National Security and foreign policy
2. Maintenance of internal law and order (contracts, private property and individual rights)
3. Democracy, free elections and true representation of the people
…and that could be trusting them beyond their competency levels - as evidenced over the last decade or so!!
Plus ordinary British tax payers have been paying this ‘Compensation Loan’ back for over 150 years.
A few ‘elite’ slave owners may have been paid to release their slaves, but it was the British public (and millions of us in that time period) that paid to end slavery!!
Don’t forget the cost of the Royal Navy’s fleet that policed that abolition call. In taxpayer’s money and the lives lost!!
@theguardianfeed Very elitist of Sangeeta to even think like this? Who does she think she is, the Queen of Sheba and everyone is below her regal gaze? Thanks Sangeeta, but bollocks!! 🍒
@GuidoFawkes If councils can postpone elections because they say they do not have enough money to pay for them (their reason for rate increases) then do rate payers have the right to not pay their rates if they believe they cannot afford them this year? ✌️
@RupertLowe10 Be interesting if we could have a national referendum to decide if the people of the UK believe whether we should give statutory powers to this inquiry?
Just a question: What would be the negatives with a system that used a jury for all the backlog of minor crimes without a judge or magistrate to clear the backlog? The jury could nominate a ‘temporary people’s magistrate’ from within its number if a final voice was needed perhaps?
There would still be a prosecution and defence as usual. So the case would be argued from both perspectives and the people’s jury decides the guilt or not, and then the appropriate punishment from a standard list associated with the crime?
Just a thought 🫡
@MattCartoonist@Telegraph We have never needed you more Matt…and Spitting Image! The world has gone mad and we just need to take the ‘p’ out of them all! It’s crazy! 🤪
@StarkNakedBrief Is it still ‘disinformation’ if the Met Police do it? 🤦🏻♂️ Also, have you noticed that if you rearrange the letters of his name it spells ‘Tosser’…you need to change some of the letters but that’s beside the point!! 😂
@zarahsultana He never mentions the ironically named ANTIFA and Pro-Palestine fascists or the racist grooming gangs…what you on about 🤣 But agree his hypocritical nepotistic support for his ‘Pals’ isn’t a good look either 🇬🇧
@ArchRose90 A lot of what he talked about was completely misunderstood and misrepresented by many on the left. It reminds me of a line from the Rudyard Kipling poem “If”:
“If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken, twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools.”
