May is Celiac Awareness Month!
#celiacdisease hides behind symptoms like fatigue, anxiety, anemia, or skin issues—or no symptoms at all. We're shining a light on this & helping more Canadians get diagnosed.

Today the government has announced that PAVA spray will be issued at YOIs.
We do not support the use of PAVA in youth custody due to the overall detrimental effect on children & the distinct lack of evidence that its use improves safety.

Our petition to end the postcode lottery of gluten free prescriptions has reached an incredible milestone—over 17,000 signatures! A huge thank you to everyone who has signed and shared so far.
Later this month, the Coeliac UK team, along with MPs, healthcare professionals and those directly affected by the withdrawal of gluten free prescriptions will deliver the petition directly to Number 10 Downing Street, calling on the Government to take immediate action to safeguard access to gluten free food through NHS prescriptions.
But before we hand over the petition, we want to celebrate this amazing community effort and stand together. Join us at Parliament Square on Wednesday 19 March, from 1pm to 2pm to show your support! If you're planning to come, please fill out the form below so we can expect you. To show your support, we’d love for you to wear a Coeliac UK t-shirt to demonstrate solidarity, or alternatively a plain orange t-shirt if you have one! If you don’t have a Coeliac UK t-shirt already they can be purchased via the Coeliac UK shop with all proceeds going to help those who need to live gluten free.

Together, we can make a real difference.
When someone with coeliac disease eats gluten, their immune system attacks their own tissues, causing damage to the gut and preventing proper nutrient absorption. The gluten free diet is the only treatment and is essential for managing the condition and maintaining health. It’s not a passing trend.
At Coeliac UK, we work tirelessly behind the scenes to monitor media coverage and challenge inaccuracies. It's crucial that coeliac disease is taken seriously, and we actively engage with media outlets to ensure they report accurately on both the condition and the gluten free diet.

🧵 “It cannot be right that some children spend up to 23 hours each day alone in their cells with no access to education or other pursuits that might improve their chances of rehabilitation and successful future lives.”
This @ofsted & @HMIPrisonsnews report ought to shock you.
Just tried to book an urgent video link to see a client in prison..."Due to other bookings, the next available legal video link is currently 11th February 2025."
Children are at most risk of entering the youth justice system due to vulnerabilities, victimisation, trauma, and unmet needs.
The responsibility for reducing this risk sits with adults, not children.
Great day 1 of youth justice training on all things children at the police station for the ENGAGE programme ✔️ thanks to our brilliant trainer @MelStooks

Solicitors (& junior bar) are on their knees. They work hard - and with great skill - in chaotic lists whilst prepping cases, looking after clients, attending prison visits, covering police stations and trying to have a personal life.
Being at court until 8pm is not an option.
Matthew Perry’s passing is shocking and saddening. I’ll never forget the schoolyard games we used to play, and I know people around the world are never going to forget the joy he brought them. Thanks for all the laughs, Matthew. You were loved – and you will be missed.
