@GroomB I also seem to recall a UK news programme reporting on how Soviet TV of the time went to town reporting this (all the while, of course, ignoring persistent food queues within the USSR).
@carryonkeith I crossed his path, gently, in a Tokyo hotel in the late 80s. He seemed as wide as he was tall, but probably because he had two huge minders with him. I'm a good deal older than him, and still a lot better looking.
