This case report describes an 11-yr-old boy who developed unilateral subretinal fluid, choroidal thickening, & mild vision loss after prolonged repeated low-level red light therapy for myopia control, with partial improvement after discontinuing treatment. https://t.co/efxU3p7EKB
The Treasury Committee is reviewing whether the student loan system is fair and wants to hear from doctors and medical students. But you only have a short window to tell them what it’s actually like.
Doctors are often hit harder by student loans due to longer training and delayed earnings.
When responding to the survey, you may want to mention...
• the cost of longer medical training
• interest and repayments early in your career
• the combined impact of loans and tax
• how debt affects morale, retention and progression
The survey closes Tuesday 14 April.

Today on Covid #DayofReflection we remember those who lost their lives during the pandemic, and who still continue to suffer the consequences.
These are not just numbers, they are our friends, our families, our neighbours and our colleagues. (1/3)
NEW: How do Plan 2 student loans (for those who started university courses between 2012 and 2022) work?
And how have recent changes to the repayment terms changed how much graduates can expect to repay?
🧵 @KateOgdenEcon explains:
“We’re asking for fair pay. We’re asking for job stability.”
Laura is one of thousands of doctors out on strike today, waiting for a credible offer from @wesstreeting
The Government can’t keep expecting general practice to provide timely, safe care for patients if we simply don’t have the means to do so.
That’s why our Chair, Professor Kamila Hawthorne, is asking you to join her in signing a letter to Wes Streeting, calling on him to make sure the upcoming 10 Year Workforce Plan isn’t another missed opportunity.
It must deliver a clear roadmap to train, recruit and retain the GPs our patients desperately need.
Almost 10,000 members helped us secure change in 2024. Now we need your help to make sure general practice gets the support it needs.

NEW: The Chancellor almost certainly has a fiscal repair job on her hands at next month’s Budget.
But doing the bare minimum risks another fiscal groundhog day next year.
🧵 THREAD on our new IFS Green Budget's findings on the UK's economic outlook and fiscal situation:
Despite years of studying and training resident doctors are facing an unemployment crisis.
This year, more than 30,000 doctors applied for just 10,000 specialty training places.
Fixing the specialty training crisis is crucial – for doctors and patients https://t.co/BAOQX3c1Es
This is why Resident doctors in England are taking a stand against the Government - it’s time to pay us what we're worth.

Lots of discussion today about regional investment. You can use our @TheIFS public spending tool to explore how much the government currently spends in each region of the UK, what it spends it on, and how that has changed over time: https://t.co/DxGXXigRrj
NEW: Sure Start generated widespread, long-lasting benefits for children in education, health, absences, and SEND.
Every £1 of up-front spending on Sure Start could generate around £2 in total benefits over the long run.
THREAD on our new @NuffieldFound-funded report:
[1/11]
👉 Competition for specialty training spots has surged by 68% in 2 years.
👉 ~20,000 doctors will fail to get a spot this year due to limited training places.
👉 We need to act now to fix this.

There is an immense NHS training job crisis for UK graduate doctors, which is leaving 1000s of them underemployed.
11,757 doctors did not have a speciality training job. This is due to the government centrally restricting the training numbers. This means doctors can’t train to become specialists and can’t help cut the waiting lists, despite the British public having to wait years for appointment dates.
Meanwhile @UKLabour is continuing to employ doctors from WHO red list countries, while UK graduates are not prioritised in their own home country for these scarce training jobs.
We can’t carry on like this anymore.
#Hashtags for church crawlers, and anyone with a fancy for such things. This was pinned on my old account, so I am updating my new one as they seem to be much missed. Retweet as often as you like.
Working alongside a greater share of senior women specialists during an early-career placement influences female junior doctors' own specialty choices.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in strike action over the last week.
Because of pay and conditions, hard working doctors are being driven out of their profession and the Government must come to the table and address their concerns.
