Just keep exposing yourself to the things you want to learn.
No strategy. No plan. No approach.
Just exposure.
Leads to far superior understanding and ability than the fragile designs of others.
Really no comparison.
The structures you learn must emerge.
I have a serious distaste for faux authenticity posturing by nerds who want to look smart.
Examples: @hackernews and @typesafeai purposefully keeping their site ugly as sh&t so they can appeal to the cool “authentic”crowd.
It’s like spending $700 to buy ripped jeans so you can look authentic.
Gross.
This conflates the ability to formulate a question mathematically with the ability to recognize a problem worth investigating mathematically.
Two very different cognitive activities.
Mathematical training (whatever that means) does not fuel the ability to recognize a pattern, notice a contradiction, or intuit a relationship that mathematics has yet to describe.
Also notice the closure. If mathematical training determines which questions we can ask, then mathematical inquiry is constrained by the conceptual structures it already possesses.
The most consequential advances come from recognizing that our existing representations are inadequate.
*Intuition* should help determine what is worth asking. Mathematics should help determine what we can establish about the answer.
And from my experience, “mathematical training” is what often prevents good outside questions from being asked.
That’s why AI is so important in this space. It allows people from all walks of life to intuit and pose questions, to be part of the process, rather than be kept off the lawn by those who wish to put privileged fences around mathematics.
This is simply the story of human progress. It’s always how it works.
@WandererTheGrey I wish, it’s still manual labor coming up with the script, world building, prompting the right way, editing, music choices, every frame and edit is still very much a human Endeavour

There is this last attempt by mathematicians to keep proofs inside the purview of human activity.
Like the craftsman wanting to keep woodworking to his chisel and hunk of basswood, rather than losing it to the lathe.
I get it. There is an intimacy to the craft. A journey. An experience.
But mathematical proofs are different.
As mathematical knowledge accumulates, new results often depend on increasingly elaborate machinery, earlier theorems, and extensive chains of reasoning. Sometimes running into thousands of pages.
Proving isn’t analogous to woodworking or any physical craft. Its abstraction subsumes so much underlying precedent that it has become a bloated time suck and isolated activity.
It is now a publicly funded lifelong activity with little real world relevance to show for it. The whittler can still give many artifacts to people and make them happy. The career-long mathematician cannot.
But if AI can supply a steady stream of proofs, we can bring math back into a frequency that matters.
The journey was already lost to abstraction. AI didn’t take the journey away.
AI is the coroner, not the killer.
Let the new age of mathematics begin.
