Did an hour-long research talk today without writing it all out. Set the timer. When I was done, it was 59 minutes and 47 seconds. #achievementunlocked

Every one of my 70 students turned in their final work on time. Except the one student with a pre-approved incomplete. Happy weird. I did one class with generous redos and flexible due dates during the semester and the other class as a 100% ungraded class.

@JoelMatthys @Komaniecki_R @meganlavengood @ethanhein As I've been experimenting with simplifying harmony labels in my undergrad classes, I find myself much happier using figured bass than roman numerals. It is not what I expected to happen. I tend to do harmonic function (T,P,D) + intervals above the bass.

If you had 25 stems (.wav) from a music production project that was really nuanced and beautiful, what would you use them to teach? (they group into bass, chord, drum, fill, FX, Lead, Pad, and Vox). I'm so in over my head.....

Finally, grading is a joy. I love hearing them play on their instruments. I love reading their reflections. I glance quickly at their transcriptions... it was always about process, not product. Assigning points is a no-brainer.

Set my Aural Skills 3 students loose on their final project today, which is a pandemic project that I still love. I think the set up depresses cheating and stress while elevating learning. (1/9)

Could they lie about the time? Yup. And they might. I'm past the point where I worry about it. The mid-way meeting really helps make sure that everyone gets something out of the project.
