Johnson and Johnson Japan Workers Union
Ground Zero. November 11, 2022, a sudden announcement at Janssen Pharma Co., Ltd.: massive layoffs. "I don't understand why I was targeted for voluntary resignation. They won't even explain..." Many employees were subjected to multiple interviews, and almost all of them ended up leaving. Three years have passed since that day. Today, November 11, 2025, I am starting to post on X (formerly Twitter).
On October 16, 2025, we held the 9th collective bargaining session. I will be posting about the content in several parts.
~Management condoned the rewriting of stakeholder feedback by a supervisor. We are negotiating for improvement.~
Key Points
1st,
It was discovered that a non-union employee, the supervisor of a union member, had rewritten the stakeholder feedback for that union member. The employee who provided the feedback sent the original feedback directly to the union member via email, revealing the supervisor's alterations.
2nd,
The supervisor changed positive feedback into negative feedback. When questioned about the reason for the changes, the supervisor explained that they "changed the wording to make it clearer." However, the content of the stakeholder feedback was clearly altered.
3rd,
We compared the original feedback with the rewritten version and requested an investigation from the HR department during collective bargaining. We confirmed the HR department's judgment during the collective bargaining session.
4th,
The HR department acknowledged the fact of the rewriting. However, they condoned the rewriting of positive feedback into negative feedback. Furthermore, they stated that "(even with the rewriting) performance evaluations would be based on the stakeholder feedback results."
last,
The union had previously confirmed instances of malicious stakeholder feedback from supervisors. The union has requested that the HR department improve the process regarding the reflection of this feedback in performance evaluations and PIPs (Performance Improvement Plans). However, no sincere investigation or fair treatment has been provided. Stakeholder feedback and 360° feedback are messages intended to help the person being evaluated further develop their strengths and improve in areas where they have room for growth. Rewriting feedback with malicious intent will not lead to growth; in fact, it could even negate their positive attributes.
Regarding the statements made by the Human Resources department and the decisions made during this round of collective bargaining, we will continue to address these matters in future collective bargaining sessions.
