@AaronGreyUnger @RickKackis I agree. Had they announced that it would be the last update AFTER the fact, no charts would be broken. No numbers would be inflated. Many wouldn't even be aware. A cancellation is very big news, and many are logging in to pay respects and say goodbye, the numbers will go down.

Funding a project that will take years to build, so that the Devs get 1-2 years of goodwill until people get tired of the same issues and drop it?

They want the idea of a successful follow up to D2, while dissociating that the same poor choices and mistakes that plagued D2 repeatedly over the years will be dragged along to a new product. Demonstrably repeatable ones.
