“These [new] laws are fundamentally designed to increase the number of children in detention. It is totally contrary to its commitment to implement the royal commission’s recommendations."
@fanniebay@SelenaUibo please do not pass these laws today! #ntpol

Today in Parliament they will re-introduce draconian bail laws that will lock up Aboriginal children. That will deny opportunities for diversion to the children who need it most. A Labor Government doing this. Utterly failing in their duty to protect the community. 3/3
It is disgusting that with all the evidence (including a roadmap from the NT Royal Commission) the NT Labor Government still chooses the punitive path that the evidence clearly shows does not work. Locking kids up destroys lives. It is criminogenic and leads to re-offending. 2/3
A great article by the amazing Olga Havnen and Nicholas Fancourt. Aboriginal community-led initiatives are what's needed. Initiatives that are healing, that address trauma and that are culturally strengthening. 1/3
Ive just signed up to run in the takayna Trail on 20 March - madness!!! Help the Bob Brown Foundation fight for World Heritage Protection for Takayna / Tarkine and to return it to Aboriginal ownership.
I’d love your support – will you sponsor me? https://t.co/r3i7U1YRY9
Well said Sophie. The Northern Territory needs everyone to demand justice for Aboriginal peoples. Buried at p9 of the NT News is this appalling case- aggravated assault for a life, a crime reminiscent of the Deep South.. Why isn’t this national news?
I'm relieved for Kumanjayi's family that the officer has been charged and will face trial. But it's not over. There are so many questions that still need answering, we need to keep standing with mob as they demand those answers. #JusticeForWalker#auspol

There is a crisis of Aboriginal children which would be on the front pages if they were white | First Dog on the Moon | Opinion | The Guardian https://t.co/KYmRjww8Pt
Great article from Dr Ruth Armstrong. We need an ‘intense effort’ to engage Aboriginal families and communities in decision-making for EACH child if RC recommendations honoured: What will it take to bring real reform to juvenile justice in the NT? | Croakey https://t.co/oRXdiho0zB
DIAGRAMA: We need the best staff, highest qualified to work with most challenging kids. Educators, psychologists, counsellors. Not ex military/security/containment as is usual profile of youth detention workforce in UK (read: Aust?) #JusticeForYoungPeople
Diagrama: ‘We manage risk in totally different way’. There IS another way! Build the kid up, support them to reintegrate, engage with family, the community. Is it time for Aust to embrace this approach?
#JusticeForYoungPeople
Diagrams provide home like centres. ‘Normalise’ behaviour of young people by providing with support, skills, education for their eventual reintegration into the community. #JusticeForYoungPeople
David McGuire from Diagrama speaking about youth justice in UK: ‘everyone says have most violent kids’, need jail-like facilities. His reply ‘bullshit’ #JusticeForYoungPeople
We must work with kids, their families, and rebuild cultural identity- not shut them out. NOTHING has changed post Royal Commission. Culture is the key. Those who claim Territory Families have tried ‘therapeutic approach’ & that it’s failed have no idea what they’re talking about
