.@MadDogUnleashed pulled no punches to Bubba Cunningham on their decision to leave out West Virginia.
"You can't have that team play all year & now you tell me they're not going to make it because DeVries is out. That's not a fair thing to do."
The Committee Chair's response ⬇️
Regardless of the injustice done to @WVUhoops, it only enhances the incredible season that Javon Small had. DeVries gets hurt & he has an All American season. Seriously, if the kid was at North Carolina or Kentucky, he would be very close to being a first teamer. There aren’t enough smart people out there, unfortunately. @Big12Conference
West Virginia politicians plan to announce "action against the NCAA and Tournament Selection Committee" later today tied to WVU's snub. Worth noting there that now-Governor Patrick Morrisey was the AG in the state who successfully challenged NCAA transfer rules.
The NCAA Tournament Chair (and UNC Athletic Director) cites Torvik Rankings and WAB as 'new metrics" used to pick this year's teams for the NCAA Tournament right before explaining why UNC was in and #WVU was out.
Torvik
WVU - 34th
UNC - 36th
WAB
WVU - 41st
UNC - 42nd
All we hear is talk about the importance of QUAD 1 wins - UNC in Quad 1 tough games was 1-12 .Don’t you have to win a couple . @UNC_Basketball passes my eye test but I don’t want to hear the committee talk about how vital QUAD 1 wins are . Obviously not for all teams I feel @WVUhoops got a raw deal .
This has to be the last straw for the outdated practice of ADs serving on selection committees.
It's bad enough that Bubba Cunningham is North Carolina's AD, his reasoning for his own school getting in over West Virginia was b/c of a player who's been injured for 3 months.
Embarrassing & inexcusable.
Put this out before I realized @WVUhoops was not included in the field. For some reason, even with 4 of Top 12 @Big12Conference teams in NET, league was thought to be “down.” Even if was No.1 in @kenpomeroy nine of last 11 years. Obviously, I have no issues @SEC’s “outlier” year but ACC was historically horrendous. Human nature in that conference room prevailed.
Sources: West Virginia is targeting Rich Rodriguez as the school’s next head coach. A deal is working toward completion, but yet to finalized. Rodriguez, 61, went 60-26 in his seven year there from 2001-07, including three-straight 10-win seasons.
