Husband to Shirley. I do religion, not politics. Resurrection, not reincarnation. Trying to remain undefiled by the world. I don’t check this thing every day.
"If the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from the church today, 95% of what we do would go on and no one would know the difference. If the Holy Spirit had been withdrawn from the New Testament church, 95% of what they did would stop, and everybody would know the difference." - A W Tozer
@CaitlinYorkSC@RiverbanksZooSC Get a library card. Public libraries carry passes for museums and the zoo that you can check out. My wife has taken our daughter to Riverbanks Zoo a number of times with those passes. Same for the Charleston Aquarium. Free ninety nine.
@weecalvin1509@DaveMallinak@swordofthelord I went to the sword conference in 2001. I saw a book by A. W. Pink for sale, and I told Shelton Smith about it and said he was a hyper-Calvinist. Dr. Smith looked genuinely perplexed about it and thanked me for letting him know. I never found out if they removed it.
@DanCrenshawTX I understand you were a Navy Seal, so one would expect you to be more of a hard charger. But you seem to be saying that the only disabilities that can be related to service are those that happen in combat. Is this the case?
The final thousand years of world history:
“Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” ’ ” - Zechariah 8:23
With regard to "Judeo Christian":
The 10 Commandments are Jewish.
The great stories of the Old Testament are Jewish.
The Jews developed the idea of subsidiarity as the alternative to tyranny and slavery.
The Jews established the cultural preconditions for the rise of universal literacy.
The fate of Israel at the hands of the Islamists is the fate of the West.
This rising tide of anti-semitism sickens me. Those of you engaging in it for your oh-so-moral reasons—you're despicable.
And remember, you proud "Christians" objecting in all your purity to the term:
Christ Himself was a Jew.
"I desired as many as could to join together in fasting and prayer, that God would restore the spirit of love and of a sound mind to the poor deluded rebels in America." - John Wesley
My hunch on the birthright citizenship case: I think SCOTUS will rule tomorrow that those born on US soil before this date have birthright citizenship, but going forward the Constitution will not be interpreted in this way.
@RCallahanWaco Kicking churches out of the SBC is no more "exercising control" over them than blocking people on Twitter is "exercising control" over them.
@RCallahanWaco Apparently you believe that the SBC has the power to force a church to remove its female pastor. It has no such power. All it can do is kick that church out of the denomination and watch helplessly as that church moves on with its female pastor, albeit as a non-SBC church.
My chain of command cancelled my R&R because I submitted a 1-O packet and they didn't want me out of the country while it was pending. When my 1SG told me, he was concerned that I might snap; but I told him it was a relief. I didn't want to go home knowing I'd have to come back.
One of the craziest parts about GWOT was mid-tour leave.
You could be in a knock down drag out street fight one day. Then 24 hours later, be on a beach in Miami.
I remember thinking how unnatural it felt.
I don’t think humans were designed for that to feel normal.
@SetantaADV I honestly wonder if that women actually worked for the USO or if she was a scammer merely impersonating a USO worker. That entire interaction sounds scammy to me.
@BasedMikeLee I'm a Baptist chaplain; and in my personal experience I haven't met but a few patients who identified as LDS, and the only one who showed any openness towards my visit wanted to talk about her personal life, not so much about religion. We avoided religion.
The issue here becomes apparent when one considers how closed-off a LDS member is towards a visit from a non-LDS chaplain. The utility of classifying those other denominations as "Christian" is to make it easier for the corps of chaplains to know how to allocate personnel. (cont)
@BasedMikeLee There's no possible way for the military to hire a chaplain that represents every religious belief held by any servicemember. So a list which lumps various groups under the label "Christian" is useful if seen as a way of knowing which groups welcome one another's chaplains.
