8th Light Cavalry, the first armoured regiment to reach Natu La at 14140 feet. When the 1962 war broke out, India sent 8 Light Cavalry to defend Sikkim. The AMX 13 tanks were dismantled in Siliguri and taken to Natu La by road. It was definitely a huge feat for the Indian Army.

Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief #SouthernCommand on relinquishing the command, laid a wreath at the Southern Command War Memorial to honour the sacrifice of the Bravehearts on 31 Mar 2026.

The Army Commander subsequently reviewed the Guard of Honour at HQ Southern Command.

In his message to all ranks of Southern Command, the Army Commander exhorted all to sustain Southern Command’s operational edge by embracing #TechAbsorption, refining warfighting competencies for Multi-Domain Operations and strengthening the foundations of a #FutureReady force.

Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth assumes the appointment of the Vice Chief of Army Staff (#VCOAS) with effect from 01 April 2026.

Pioneered by #WhiteTigerDivision of #SudarshanChakraCorps, #ShauryaSquadron represents a modern tactical construct for Multi-Domain Operations, drawing upon the AirLand Battle concept to integrate air and land capabilities across the depth of the battlespace through surveillance, manoeuvre and precision fires for faster decisions and decisive combat effect.

Fielded in a realistic battle environment, #ShauryaSquadron demonstrated the seamless integration of real-time surveillance assets with mechanised forces, attack helicopters, swarm strikes and coordinated firepower, enhancing battlefield awareness, compressing the sensor-to-shooter cycle and enabling swift, decisive battlefield response.

On culmination of the exercise, the Army Commander lauded the formation for exercising an innovative tactical capability aligned with the Indian Army’s ongoing transformation towards integrated and technology-driven warfighting. Interacting with the Squadron, he exhorted all ranks to remain professionally agile, technologically proficient and operationally aligned to deliver decisive effect across the full spectrum of Multi-Domain Operations.

Tested under realistic battlefield conditions, the squadron practiced its capabilities as a modern combat element by seamlessly integrating precision strike with deep surveillance and close combat reconnaissance. Designed to seek further, strike deeper and stay longer, the Shaurya Squadron demonstrated its ability to deliver real-time reconnaissance combined with swift and precise strike responses.

The exercise provided valuable operational insights, underscoring the squadron’s potential to significantly enhance the effectiveness of reconnaissance in the modern battlefield.
