🌡️ A Heat Advisory is in effect again today for Duval County. Hot temperatures and heat index or “feels like” temperatures up to 110° are forecast, creating conditions that can quickly lead to heat-related illness.

The City of Jacksonville’s Cooling Center Contingency Plan remains activated. Cooling Centers are open at all City of Jacksonville libraries, community centers, pools, and splash pads during their normal operating hours to help residents stay cool.

🚍 JTA will provide free transportation to a Cooling Center if you need it.

Take a few simple steps to stay safe:

☀️ Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day
🏠 Take breaks indoors or in the shade

🌡️ Today marks the third consecutive day of dangerous heat across Jacksonville. A Heat Advisory is in effect for Duval County from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with heat index values expected to reach 112°.

The City of Jacksonville has activated its Cooling Center Contingency Plan. Cooling Centers are open at all City of Jacksonville libraries, community centers, pools, and splash pads to help residents stay safe.

If you need transportation, JTA will provide free rides to a Cooling Center.

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🌴 Limit time outdoors during the hottest part of the afternoon whenever possible.
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
‼️ Know the signs of heat illness. If someone is showing signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

If you felt a shake earlier, you're not imagining it.

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred near the western tip of Cuba around 2 p.m. today, and the shaking was felt across parts of Florida, including Northeast Florida.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Communications Center received several calls from residents reporting the shaking.

The good news is there are no reports of damage associated with this earthquake, and there is no tsunami threat.

Did you feel it? We have received multiple reports of some shaking/tremors as far north as the Jacksonville area. There is NO tsunami threat at area beaches from this earthquake.

Effective immediately, the burn ban has been lifted in Duval County.

Recent rainfall has helped improve conditions and reduce wildfire danger across Northeast Florida. While drought conditions still remain, fire danger is currently low and JFRD will continue monitoring fire weather closely.

Please remember that lifting the burn ban does not change Jacksonville’s year-round burning regulations. Open burning without a permit remains prohibited.
