Another violent farm attack in the Free State:

On Sunday evening near Clocolan, a 56-year-old farmer was ambushed at his home by three armed attackers. He was assaulted, stabbed, dragged into his farmhouse and forced to hand over cash and firearms. The attackers then fled in his vehicle, which was later found abandoned. No arrests have been made.

This was not an opportunistic crime. It was a targeted, organised and violent farm attack, exploiting isolation, limited visibility and slow response times. The use of firearms and knives points to clear intent to overpower and terrorise.

Farm attacks are sustained, violent crimes against people living and working in rural areas. Without intelligence-led policing, rapid rural response units and visible deterrence, these attacks will continue while communities are left to fend for themselves.

The state’s obligation is prevention, not post-incident statements. Rural safety requires urgent, focused action. IC
