@RhiannonDauster@PsychRabble@PhysLynch@LT3000Lyall Yes, likely: https://t.co/7NtcmUn0IM. And higher representation to lower on a continuum from softer to harder sciences is exactly what would be predicted on a “innate differences in preference” hypothesis.
I’ve noticed you haven’t answered a single question - why is that?
@RhiannonDauster@PsychRabble@PhysLynch@LT3000Lyall I’m assuming all of these papers are the same and that none of them address my concern of causality?
How did women break into previously male-dominated professions like medicine, biology and law which, at one point, would’ve been stereotyped as male, but can’t with physics etc?
@RhiannonDauster@PsychRabble@PhysLynch@LT3000Lyall Causality problem yet again. You think stereo > lack of identity > lack of interest, but it can also be lack of interest > lack of identity > stereo.
@RhiannonDauster@PsychRabble@PhysLynch@LT3000Lyall “Sharing from respected...scientists” - appeal to authority.
“Obvious to women...discount testimonies” - anecdotal.
It’s possible (even plausible) for respected experts to be wrong, esp. in morally charged subjects, & I doubt you’d accept anecdotes in other subject areas.
@RhiannonDauster@PsychRabble@PhysLynch@LT3000Lyall What’re you basing it on? Can’t be stereotype threat...Other external factors like lack of female role models also don’t seem to have an effect (https://t.co/ZNd2yUdixW), & authors suggest other avenues for increasing women in STEM instead...like stereo threat, which doesn’t work
@PhysLynch@LT3000Lyall@RhiannonDauster So do I. I think we’ve done it. You’re still viewing ST as cause rather than effect. LP is mainly an issue of having & raising kids (https://t.co/grIifN2cRP | https://t.co/EBvxqxDkd8). Other overviews: https://t.co/cOgRgHr6aA | https://t.co/jtlrVLMdGR | https://t.co/wCpVP2CR97
@PhysLynch@LT3000Lyall@RhiannonDauster Perform the same on average. But with greater male variability, both the low and high-end are male dominated. Further, men’s & women’s perf. on IQ components related to maths/physics etc differ. As @LT3000Lyall noted, why isn’t this a problem for psych/medicine/etc?
@PhysLynch@LT3000Lyall@RhiannonDauster Did they come first? How do you know? Seems that disentangling the cause of stereos from the effects, especially historically, is virtually impossible. The most we can say on this account is “we don’t know”. Also evidence of direct stereo effects is weak (e.g. stereo threat)
@PhysLynch@LT3000Lyall@RhiannonDauster Or: In counties in which men and women are free to choose, men and women choose different careers and thereby propagate different ideas of what men and women on average want or are good at (stereotypes).
