UTEP’s defense forced multiple turnovers in the spring game on Saturday at the Sun Bowl.

The offense, along with head coach Scotty Walden, wasn't happy with that, especially with ball security being a major point of emphasis this spring.

Overall, the spring game served as a valuable evaluation tool for the Miners as they continue preparations for the 2026 season.

‼️Skyler Locklear stands out in UTEP’s 1st spring scrimmage - Nelson throws two interceptions:

“He (Skyler) threw the only two touchdown passes of the scrimmage, which included a 95-yard swing pass to tailback Marquez Taylor….The other was late, to Xavier Phillips”

“Malachi Nelson had some struggles, throwing two interceptions to Stratton Shufelt and Eastlake High grad Jaime Guerrero.”
