I enjoyed speaking with Congressional Gold Medal award winners about the opportunities artificial intelligence can create for the next generation. AI is a tool young people can learn to use to solve problems, strengthen their skills, increase their productivity, and improve their lives. As this technology continues to develop, it is important that we equip our youth with the skills they will need to succeed in the AI-powered workplace of tomorrow.

California is the only state in the country still carrying an outstanding federal unemployment insurance loan balance, forcing every employer in our state to pay higher federal payroll taxes because Sacramento continues to fail to repay its debt. That is why I am cosponsoring @RepVinceFong's CAL Act to require states to use eligible federal funds they receive to pay down these debts before spending the money elsewhere. As robotics become more integrated into our economy, we must ensure these systems are secure, trusted, and not vulnerable to exploitation by foreign adversaries. I recently met with the BlueRibbon Coalition to discuss the importance of keeping public lands open and accessible to the people who use them. In our community, outdoor recreation is part of our way of life, including off-roading and other responsible motorized recreation. This week the House passed the Stop Child Care Scams Act to crack down on fraud in federal childcare funding and protect support for families who need it. This program helps low-income families afford childcare, but improper payments have wasted hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars. The Working Families Tax Cuts created a new way for families to invest in their children’s future. Eligible children born between 2025 and 2028 will receive a $1,000 federal contribution, and children under 18 can still open an account.
