Yesterday, I received with pleasure the delegation led by Christina Scott, DG Network UK @FCDOGovUK , alongside the newly appointed British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Pete Vowels and other officials, on a working visit to the House of Representatives.
Our discussions focused on the ongoing constitutional review process, particularly state police and the Reserved Seats Bill for women, preparations for the forthcoming elections, and the implementation of the new Electoral Act.
We appreciate the @FCDOGovUK ’s continued commitment to supporting Nigeria’s democratic and economic reforms. We look forward to sustaining this partnership to strengthen democratic institutions, promote good governance and advance national development.
BRIDGING DIGITAL DIVIDE IN BENDE FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY.
Another important step towards digital transformation was taken today in Bende. It was my pleasure to receive the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, for the commissioning of the first telecommunications tower under the Nigerian Universal Communications Access Project (NUCAP), designed to extend reliable mobile and broadband connectivity to underserved communities.
Every rainy season, as the rains pour. Various communities suffer the harsh realities of climate change. The water rises, a drainage fails, a farm is lost, a family starts over from nothing.
Today, at the 153rd Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania, I made a presentation on a topic that is dear to my heart, particularly following the unfortunate incidents caused by climate change in some communities in my constituency.
My message was simple: our commitment to climate action must go beyond dialogue and debate to structured legislative interventions across the globe. These interventions should rest on a pipeline of priority projects that investors can trust, and a platform to guide each viable project from idea to financing to completion.
As a nation, the stakes are clear. Our Energy Transition Plan commits us to net zero emissions by 2060 and will require about US$500 billion in new investment. That is an opportunity to build new markets, modernise infrastructure and create green jobs.
As legislators, we must take seriously our commitment to enforcing the Climate Change Act, scrutinizing how climate funds are spent, backing credible green finance frameworks, and giving investors the legal certainty they need to commit.
Our green transition must be a just transition, with no region and no community left behind. With sound laws, credible institutions, global partnerships, and private sector investment, we can turn commitments into infrastructure, jobs and shared prosperity.
In Arusha, Tanzania, alongside the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio GCON and other delegates for the 153rd Interparliamentary Union Assembly where we will be electing a new President of the Assembly as well as deliberate on issues that strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and collaboration across nations in the continent.
Two nations. One Commonwealth. A shared commitment to democracy and good governance.
Today, on behalf of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, I joined the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, as we received the Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives, Hon. Milton Dick, MP, on a courtesy visit to the National Assembly ahead of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
This visit provided an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the strong relationship that exists between Nigeria and Australia, anchored on shared Commonwealth values, democratic governance and a growing tradition of parliamentary friendship.
As Nigeria prepares for the IPU Assembly, we go with one clear message; Nigeria is open, engaged, and ready to build partnerships that actually work for our people.
We commend Australia’s continued commitment to multilateralism. The best is still ahead for our both nations. The work of the parliament extends beyond our chambers and we will show up wherever it counts.
Happy birthday the Mother of the Nation. Live long and prosper more … thanks for the things you do and may your children across the nation rise to call you BLESSED . Congratulations Ma!
Some moments mark achievement; others remind us that the work of service is yet unfinished.
Honoured to receive the Times Heroes Lawmaker of the Year Award for the House of Representatives at the Daily Times Nigeria @100 Centenary Celebration held today in Abuja, alongside distinguished Nigerians and institutions whose contributions to national development continue to shape our nation.
I commend the management and staff of Daily Times for a remarkable century of service to Nigeria. For 100 years, the newspaper has been a witness to, chronicler of, and participant in our nation’s journey upholding the values of journalism, editorial excellence and professional integrity while shaping national discourse.
The media remains a critical pillar of democracy and an indispensable partner in nation-building. This is why the 10th House of Representatives remains committed to strengthening the role of the media by promoting press freedom as well as reviewing laws and practices that constrain effective journalism.
I am grateful to Daily Times Nigeria for this recognition. I receive it not only as an honour, but also as a call to continue serving with renewed strength, and advancing legislation that delivers meaningful impact for the people and our nation, Nigeria.
What hurriedness would make you omit the highest-ranking South Easterner in government from the Campaign Council?
Even after the reconstitution, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu deserves an apology. This was an unnecessary omission and should be corrected appropriately.
@novieverest sustainable transport, and resilient infrastructure.." so what’s wrong with him going to wish his elder brother a happy birthday since they were in same city or did you see or witness any elaborate event in the video?
