Do you or someone you love study nocturnal animals? Do you want to film behavior in infrared, but NOT spend $1k on a camera (that will die in the field anyways)? Is short battery life a constant battle? Here, this preprint will help: https://t.co/nskCXg8Vcn
Yaay! First ever cover! 🥳 super happy for this excellent work lead by @Massimo_De_Agro to be out! Having 8 eyes is crazy- thanks to Massimo we’re getting a bit closer to understanding how it all might work for jumping spiders. https://t.co/WQ1U6OX3EG
🚨I am thrilled to finally share the amazing news of being awarded an Emmy Noether grant from @dfg_public. In the next years, my group will focus on comprehensively studying (REM) sleep behavior, its function & ecology, in a comparative evolutionary framework using #spiders! 🕷️
@BugsOrBust For highspeed, the Chronos is the best bang for your buck: https://t.co/y2lEmOqHoq
They just came out with significantly better versions (and significantly more expensive), but I know a good handful of folks who like the Chronos 1.4
@arachnonaut @BugsOrBust @DoctorZen I'm just going to drop this preprint here...

While going all the way down the rabbit hole you get an IR sensitive GoPro...you can just as easily replace the lens with something not IR, but less "fisheye," and set the focal plane to suit your needs.
Interested in the role that sensory processing plays in perception of animal signals? Fully funded four-year PhD to start September 2024, deadline to apply 12th May. https://t.co/jDU4eYbBM2
@PlasticPercep@IDsignals Dude. Wow. Not only does it read well, it's beautiful! Congrats on wrapping up the preprint. Fingers crossed for the next stage :)
IT'S OUT!! Monumental work describing what goes on in the brain of a wasp that recognizes conspecifics by their face. @PlasticPercep has shown face cells in a wasp! AH, so excited. Surely to be seen in textbooks soon. Congrats Chris and @IDsignals - truly inspirational work.
Thrilled to share a *NEW PRE-PRINT* I’ve been working on for the last few years! @IDsignals, W. Freiwald, and I describe the neural correlates of individual facial recognition in a social wasp, Polistes fuscatus.

We're hiring! <°°)))><
Interested in deep-sea fish and their eyes? In molecular evolution? We look for a PhD student to join our team in Prague. ERC funding for the single-cell transcriptomics. https://t.co/p9EMj3WUAI (postdocs wanted too, stay tuned). Happy for retweets!😍 thks
@marshalhedin Ah, gotcha. Even then, his palps aren't that swollen yet, good eye! But makes me wonder - do they enlarge throughout the pen stadium? I know at least deinopid palps get super dark right before the mat molt, but never took notice earlier on..
