Most indie authors are on the side of needing editors as opposed to not, myself included.

The one thing recommended the most is a good editor because a bad cover can cover a lot except a bad book.

Also I suppose indie authors don't assume they need editors? A good indie editor will still " boss you around " when they are good at their job and want the best for your story.
