The Tesla Cybercab is coming for Waymo’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And when it arrives at scale, the meaning of transportation as we know it today will change forever.
The Tesla Cybercab is a purpose built robotaxi, designed from the ground up from day one for one job only - moving people autonomously, as safe as possible, and in the most cost efficient way.
And FYI, there will be NO steering wheel and NO pedals. I’m willing to bet anyone any $ amount if they think otherwise.
The Cybercab will be a:
• Two passenger design optimized for ride hailing
• Vision only autonomy with cameras and neural nets, no lidar or radar
• Unsupervised FSD built to operate without a human driver
•~300 miles of range, enough for nonstop daily use
• Aiming to cost under $30,000
A vehicle this affordable, running 24/7 with no driver cost will change the math completely. Ride prices will drop significantly, utilization will go up, margins will expand, and adoption will accelerate.
And for people that think this is NEVER happening:
• Prototypes are already being tested on real streets in Austin and the Bay Area
• Production ramp is beginning in April 2026 (just 3 month away) at Giga Texas, w/ initial fleets targeting 200-300K, aiming to produce 2M Cybercabs per yr
YES, this product is happening. And I think Tesla knows a thing or two on how to scale manufacturing better than any company in the world…
This is why Waymo is going to be in trouble, despite Waymo deserving credit for proving autonomy works in small, controlled, geofenced areas.
But at the same time that’s also their main limitation.
Waymo vehicles:
• Cost well over $100k+ each
• Rely on lidar, radar, and a super heavy sensor stacks
• Require city-by-city HD mapping
• Scale very slowly, fleet size is only ~2,500
While Tesla vehicles:
• ~9M of cars are already collecting millions of real world data on the daily
• Software improves across the entire fleet instantly
• Vehicles are affordable enough and Tesla has the manufacturing technology to deploy at massive scale
• Will have no geofencing limitations long term
This is why people comparing ride counts today between these two companies are missing the point. I’m expecting Tesla to surpass Waymo’s fleet size and revenue before the end of 2026!
Once Cybercabs are flooding the streets, I believe you’ll begin to see:
1/ Ride costs drop dramatically, potentially 20-30% or more of today’s prices
2/ Hailing a ride will be available 24/7, no downtime, no human drivers
3/ Massive safety gains bc AI autonomy doesn’t text, drink, or get tired
4/ Less car ownership, so cities will change, parking lots will be less, space will open up
5/ Transportation will become access based, instead of ownership based
THIS is why I’m so convicted about the next chapter of Tesla. And once this clicks for people, and you experience just one ride, the definition of transportation will never be the same.
