@APMike Like just when you think it’s going to follow the most interesting thing, it drops it and takes you somewhere else. Love McCarthy for playing with the readers’ expectations. A great book.
I always liked the Beach Boys, but was never more than a casual listener. I skipped straight from Pet Sounds to Dennis Wilson’s Pacific Ocean Blue, missing everything in between. Sitting down with their 70s albums now feels like stumbling onto an alternate timeline.
I love artists who aren’t afraid to pay homage to their influences. Sharon Van Etten and the Attachment Theory’s new album has a distinct voice all its own, sprinkled with hints of Stereolab, Nick Cave, and New Order. What a fantastic album.
One of the funniest/dumbest things about AI generated skateboarding videos is how obvious that they’re just modeling the physics from gameplay clips of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
When I built my portfolio website, I knew a bit about CSS. Now, looking at the CSS I wrote, it feels like the Finnegans Wake of style sheets. A sprawling stream of consciousness that even I’m having trouble making sense of.
Time to Tom Clancy the heck out of it.

Yeah, those AI-generated videos are funny and impressive. But every camera movement and gesture feels flattened by the averages of its training data. Our brains crave something more than just a bland composite of what we've seen countless times.
RIP to Bill Atkinson, one of the greatest programmers who ever lived. At Apple he created MacPaint, QuickDraw, HyperCard and was a critical part of making the Macintosh magic. He co-founded General Magic - go watch that documentary.
