Lines of people, the lines in the trees. Thinking of heritage, long-termism and care for future generations. Brilliant talk @eca_edinburgh by Katie Paterson and Anne Beate Hovind. @FuturelibraryNO

🚨 JUST RELEASED: In the last three years the world’s 5 richest men became twice as rich: in the same time 5 billion become poorer. 🤯
As the rich & powerful politicians & business leaders meet in Davos for the World Economic Forum #WEF24, the richest 1% are being allowed to get richer & billions of people are sliding into poverty.
Let's end the injustice of this inequality crisis.

There is little information about Edith Cobb online, except accounts by her friend, Anthropologist #MargaretMead. Her book "#Ecology of Imagination in Childhood" pioneers an idea of children's #Imagination placing them in a radical relationship to #nature. Here's to #edithcobb
🚨 When we fight, we win!
I've put together a thread giving a quick run down of some of the #climate movement's hard won victories from 2023 to inspire us for the year ahead! 🥳🎉

I'm thinking about the relationship between #immigration and Foucault's heterotopias: "The ship is the heterotopia par excellence. In civiliations without boats, dreams dry up, espionage takes the place of adventure, and the police take the place of pirates." #foucault#migrants
The work we do with community partners and students is so important, and part of my job I've enjoyed the most. But, I'm delighted that we are recuiting someone who will be dedicated to this part of @talbotrice75 mission. Could you be that person? @EdinUniLocal@eca_edinburgh

Still on #debt - here's a recent article about climate debt: "The oversized carbon footprint of wealthier nations has been an ongoing roadblock in the race to cut emissions and curb the worst impacts of climate change."

Dark Earth... the name scientists are giving to a kind of super soil that comes from the remains of Indigenous settlements: "created by millions of Amerindian people between 450 BC and 950 AD."

2 of the best exhibitions I’ve seen in the UK have been in Edinburgh just this month. Alberta Whittle’s ‘Create Dangerously’ at Modern One was phenomenal (went twice/may go again). The Accursed Share at Talbot Rice (on til tomorrow!) was extraordinary. https://t.co/wZ2FCHotUy
I am grateful to @JCwritercurator for taking me to a tour this afternoon @talbotrice75 where for the first time a Congolese artist #SammyBaloji born in Lubumbashi and alumni of the university of Lubumbashi exhibit is work of Copper from the #Katanga region which is symbolic of the long history of African traditions. @tessa_giblin 🙏
6pm tonight, we will be joined online by Marwa Arsanios - who will give a talk about her brilliant film series Who is Afraid of Idealogy?
Free tickets and link available through @talbotrice75 website.
Don't be afraid... and amazing things can happen.
