@vizzyethyh @DramaAlert To be fair, Bezos always had ambitions in space. He spoke about it in his high school valedictorian speech in 1982. Amazon was a stepping stone to achieve that ambition. He founded Blue Origin in 2000, 2 years before SpaceX.
@RD9240967698929@basileus234@DominicMcGregor Agreed. Lived in both the UK, NZ, and US. We live a far more comfortable life on one salary in the US. It's simply not possible to do this in the UK or NZ without making considerable compromises in QoL.

@pierrelarsen@ThatAlexWoman Agreed. Refining rare earth minerals is a dirty business and China has the largest share of refining capacity. I imagine the US will develop its own refining capacity in time, but it will be offshored to countries like Venezuela and Greenland.
@pierrelarsen@ThatAlexWoman Proximity is dependent on the feature of the asset or deterrent being used. We don't know what assets or deterrents the US intends to deploy in Greenland. What we do know is that Greenland is a point of influence in that region.
@pierrelarsen@ThatAlexWoman This is why countries are taking steps to secure their interest now and develop infrastructure to take advantage in the future.
@pierrelarsen@ThatAlexWoman In terms of resources, the Artic contains a significant amount of the planets undiscovered oil and gas and Greenland contains a significant deposit of rare earth minerals. Given climate change trends and technological advancements, these resources will become more accessible
@pierrelarsen@ThatAlexWoman The whom would be Russia and China. Russia is continuing to develop its military bases in the north and China has declared itself a "near-Artic state" . In terms of what they are defending that would be Artic minerals and resources and shipping lanes.
@ConspiracyBull1 So you’re claiming there was no possible scenario at all where Ukraine could ever join NATO? A hypothetical that you can’t actually prove?
@ConspiracyBull1 You're missing my point. You stated there was "no universe" where NATO membership was possible. NATO's 2008 decision that Ukraine “will become a member” was never reversed suggesting it could still be possible. Unlikely or politically difficult? Sure. But not impossible
@ConspiracyBull1 And that invasion just happened in a vacuum? Were there any warning signs that NATO decisions could have first order effects? Any reason why France and Germany were against offering Ukraine NATO membership in 2008?

@ConspiracyBull1 My main contention was with this statement "And as for NATO expansion there was no universe where Ukraine was going to join NATO". The evidence doesn't support that Ukraine not joining NATO was an absolute. Please cite your evidence that this was NEVER going to happen.
