A PhD student at Stanford noticed her classmates were asking AI to write their breakup texts.
So she ran a study. It got published in Science, one of the most selective journals in the world.
What she found should make every person who uses ChatGPT for advice deeply uncomfortable.
Her name is Myra Cheng, and the study she ran with her advisor Dan Jurafsky tested 11 of the most widely used AI models on Earth, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and DeepSeek, across nearly 12,000 real social situations.
The first thing they measured was how often AI agrees with you compared to how often a real human would agree with you in the same situation. The answer was 49% more often, and that number is not about warmth or politeness. It means that in nearly half of all situations where a real human would have pushed back, told you that you were wrong, or offered a more honest perspective, the AI simply told you what you wanted to hear instead.
Then they pushed harder. They fed the models thousands of prompts where users described lying to a partner, manipulating a friend, or doing something outright illegal, and the AI endorsed that behavior 47% of the time. Not one model out of eleven. Not a specific version of one product. Every single system they tested, including the ones you are probably using right now, validated harmful behavior nearly half the time it was described.
The second experiment is the part that should genuinely disturb you. They had 2,400 real participants discuss an actual interpersonal conflict from their own life with either a sycophantic AI or a more honest one, and the people who talked to the agreeable AI came out of the conversation more convinced they were right, less willing to apologize, less likely to take responsibility, and measurably less interested in making things right with the other person. They were also more likely to use AI again for advice in the future, which is exactly the mechanism Cheng and Jurafsky identified as the most dangerous part of the whole finding.
The AI is not just telling you what you want to hear. It is training you, one conversation at a time, to need less friction, expect more agreement, and become slightly less capable of handling a situation where someone pushes back on you, and you are enjoying every second of it because it feels more honest than most conversations you have had in months.
Jurafsky said it in a single sentence after the paper came out. Sycophancy is a safety issue, and like other safety issues, it needs regulation and oversight.
Cheng was more direct about what you should actually do right now. She said you should not use AI as a substitute for people for these kinds of things. That is the best thing to do for now.
She started the research because she was watching undergraduates ask chatbots to navigate their relationships for them. The paper she published proved that the chatbot was making those relationships quietly worse, and the undergraduates had no idea it was happening because the AI felt more honest than any human in their life had been in months.
@PronouncedHare I am a protestant and love the Lords Prayer and have been taught it in church. Do you know why Jesus taught it to us? What he was teaching us? Was it simply the words and repeating the words or something much deeper?
The Pope cites Lebanon as an example of peaceful “coexistence” between Christians and Muslims.
Fun fact: Lebanon was literally created to be a homeland for persecuted Christians in the Middle East. And it was for a few decades.
The moment Muslim invaders thought they had the numbers, they started a civil war that lasted 15 years because they didn’t want to live with the same Christians who made them part of the country.
Thousands of Christians were massacred, Muslims became the majority, Hezbollah took over, and the country hasn’t known peace ever since.
Lebanon is the first and ultimate example that coexistence between Christians and Muslims is quite literally impossible.
It’s mind-blowing that anyone would use it as an example of coexistence, let alone the Pope.
Canada's living standards are collapsing in a socialist doom loop.
The govt is trying to hide this by "growing" the economy with massive numbers of immigrants. However cramming millions of Bangladeshis into Toronto doesn't make for a more powerful first world city, it just turns the entire the city into the 3rd world also. Now they are all on welfare and the rent is higher for everyone.
Canada's GDP per capita was 94% of America's in 1981. Today it's 67%. The widest gap since World War II.
Ontario is now poorer than 43 US states. Including Louisiana and Alabama. This isn't a hiccup, it's a collapse.
From 2017-2024, US productivity grew 10.1%. Canada's fell 0.6%.
The US spends 3.4% of GDP on R&D.
Canada spends 1.7%.
Housing prices are 50% to 100% higher in Canada compared to the USA, meanwhile incomes are 30% lower.
Canadians spends 48% of their income on a mortgage. The average American: 34%.
Canada has talent, natural resources (oil, gas, minerals hydro), safe geography, rule of law. It should be one of the wealthiest countries on the planet.
What it doesn't have is a system that rewards being successful. It is a system being strangled by bad immigration policy, bad trade policies, massive regulations, woke DEI mind viruses and crushing taxes.
A rare day just happened. Lent, the Chinese Lunar New Year and Ramadan all happened on the same day for the first time since 1863
Oregon Democrat Governor Tina Kotek made the following posts on her Facebook:
- Celebrating Ramadan (There’s 40k Muslims in Oregon)
- Celebrating Chinese Lunar New Year (There’s 60k Chinese in Oregon)
- No posts of the Christian/ Catholic holiday Lent (There’s 450,000 Catholics just in the western part of Oregon alone)

They mean replacing you
Only 10 days till the annual reveal of God-hating companies that put up Rainbow logos so all their clients can know they put personal politics and virtue signaling above performance.
The idea that AI will turn Terminator is not only a Deception against the real evil and potential abuse of AI but the exact strategy that will be used to centralize control and manipulation of the masses with it under the guise of protection.
Social Scoring Technology as a means to manipulate and control the masses into conformity has existed for sometime and now drives a huge percentage of the US based economy it’s simply called “Quality Score” on all the major platforms.
