What a game by Team USA, defeating Bosnia & Herzegovina 2–0 with great goals from Folarin Balogun and Malik Tillman. This was the final match in the San Francisco Bay Area, and our region showed up in a big way. On to Seattle to face Belgium on Monday, and we’ll be cheering them on from San Francisco. Let’s go, Team USA, and let’s go, San Francisco!
Bay Area — we did it.
We achieved what most thought was impossible, and maybe even a little crazy. We did something no other region or stadium has ever done: we hosted a Super Bowl and a World Cup in the same calendar year — and pulled off both to resounding success.
Let that sink in.
Over the past three weeks, our team hosted six FIFA World Cup matches, capped tonight by a thrilling USA victory. The energy throughout this region has been unlike anything we've seen — from the fan marches to the packed watch parties and fan zones, and of course inside the stadium.
I'm extremely proud of our team for delivering on a global stage and creating an electric fan experience the Bay Area will remember for years. And in less than six months, we will have generated $1 billion in economic impact for the Bay Area — a lift felt well beyond the stadium, across the entire community.
None of this happens without the people behind it. I'm deeply thankful to @Zaileenh and the Bay Area Host Committee board, our staff, our elected officials, and our private and public partners — far too many to name individually, but every one of you essential to what we pulled off together.
What the Bay Area just put on display for the world is something we'll never forget.
Instead of filling out lengthy paperwork, small businesses and homeowners can use our PermitSF Portal. This means, they no longer have to go in person to the Permit Center, which often meant that merchants had to close their shops for a day or two.
These permits are now online:
Sign and awning installations
Roof replacements for your home
We’ve already brought online permits for doors, windows, siding, special events, and more. We’ll keep cutting red tape to save San Franciscans time and money.
To George and Laura, Bill and Hillary — we're grateful for your friendship, counsel, and devotion to this country. And to Joe and Jill, thank you for being on this journey with us.
17 months ago, San Francisco stopped spending more than we can afford. The budget I proposed this week, reduces our long-term structural deficit by approximately $300 million dollars.
When I came into office, City Hall was using one-time funds to cover a growing deficit and leaving the bill for someone else to pay.
That wasn’t sustainable. And it wasn’t fair to the taxpayers and the people who depend on city services.
Under my administration, we will not fall back on temporary fixes that force deeper cuts year after year.
We didn’t tell departments to do more with less. We said: focus on what matters most to our recovery and deliver results.

In San Francisco, we are focused on delivering results for the people who live, work, and visit our amazing city. That's what I told everyone on The Pat McAfee Show, and that's what I tell San Franciscans every day.
This Super Bowl week, San Francisco is showing the world that we are a city on the rise.
