The sudden death of judicial reviews in Hong Kong
Like Xi, Chief Executive Lee now has absolute power in the city
BY PATRICK POON

This photo was taken when Jimmy Lai was free.
Free to walk, to think, to breathe open air in the city he gave everything to protect.
He has not had that freedom in nearly six years. Since 2020, he has been locked in solitary confinement, cut off from the world outside his cell.
Earlier this year, a Hong Kong court sentenced him to 20 years in prison. At 78, in fragile health, that is effectively a life sentence.
His only crime was running a newspaper that told the truth.
He deserves to walk freely again. #FreeJimmyLai
