@glen4332@MarkWilsonRadio That's next year. One of the tests against Pakistan this year is at Headingley. Speaking of which, Durham hasn't hosted a test since 2016 whilst Cardiff haven't had one since the 2015 Ashes
You say that but he started this test match averaging 22 and he's not always had the easiest pitches to bowl on prior to today. Also he has reached mid 80s and is known for being an accurate bowler. So he could have been handy in Australia
@marecageo@marcus_buckland I don't believe that could be further from the truth. She took the 1st set and was a double break up at 4 - 1 in the 2nd only for Schnaider to find some form and win 12 of the next 13 games. Her forehand especially came to life with Sabalenka serving for the match at 5 - 4 in 2nd
@SJR78758844@marcus_buckland Assuming you're talking about Sabalenka, I'm not a fan of her antics either but equally there needs to be an element of understanding of how she's reacted given that she just suffered a bad loss
@SJR78758844@marcus_buckland I think you're being unfair on Sabalenka. Everyone who suffers a bad loss (especially in a tight match) feels bad afterwards irrespective of the sport they compete in. Also Osaka definitely would be missed from the tour. She's flamboyant with a big game and is a great ambassador
@grassrootsrefJa@hashtagMullins@sjracingmedia Remember though that when we started chatting, I cited the referee to and his assistant being well placed to spot 2 red card challenges in Fulham v Bournemouth only to give bookings before VAR intervened. So I'm not partial towards Man U
@grassrootsrefJa@hashtagMullins@sjracingmedia Here's one for you then! One thing I've heard a lot when there's been a big mistake from a ref is "where's the accountability?". So other than a black mark and potentially getting a match in a lower division next time out, what happens to refs when they make big mistakes?
@grassrootsrefJa@hashtagMullins@sjracingmedia The good decisions matter and I've praised plenty of good decisions from refs. However a lot of the time when they make bad decisions, they tend to be key decisions - not just in a match but in a season and they can affect the futures of managers / coaching staff just like E.T.H
@grassrootsrefJa@hashtagMullins@sjracingmedia There's a problem with what you're saying though. Usually there's at least 1 incident that proved pivotal to a result and if that goes against a team, fans are entitled to be upset with the ref regardless of whether or not they had the chance to make that irrelevant in short term
You can't have heard the announcement. They made that decision to do the victory parade on Sunday shortly after securing the PL title. So the parade plans had been in place for more than a week & they would have paraded C.L trophy also if they'd won. Their C.L loss - irrelevant
@grassrootsrefJa@hashtagMullins@sjracingmedia As for what I said about Ten Haag, I'm simply making the point that when referees make mistakes, the consequences they can have for a team (and in particular a manager) are huge which is why fans tend to vent their frustration at referees and sometimes overstep the mark
I find this laughable and I'm saying that as someone who isn't a fan of either team. He was inconsistent with his stance on time wasting from both teams and some of the things he gave as fouls and bookings
🚨💣 𝐄𝐗𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐄: UEFA are extremely pleased with the performance of Champions League Final referee Daniel Siebert.
People close to the referee say his display is internally being viewed as one of the greatest refereeing performances in Champions League Final history.
Meanwhile, there is major surprise within FIFA over why he is NOT refereeing at the World Cup.
@grassrootsrefJa@hashtagMullins@sjracingmedia I used the Villa v Newcastle FA Cup tie as an example of how much refs are relying on VAR. You rightly made the point that everyone has an off day but as I pointed out, the errors snowballed and I wasn't simply singling out Chris Kavenagh. I included his assistants in that
@grassrootsrefJa@hashtagMullins@sjracingmedia So your response to my comment about referees relying too much on VAR to make decisions actually applies to how you feel referees are treated - if not more so
@grassrootsrefJa@hashtagMullins@sjracingmedia There have been many occasions when I have publicly praised referees for good performances and defended decisions that were right even when fans dislike the decisions.
@grassrootsrefJa@hashtagMullins@sjracingmedia Of course Ten Haag lost his job from more than just 1 decision but ultimately it was a poor VAR intervention that cost him his job. Without that wrongly awarded penalty, he would likely have kept his job and could have turned United around
