@recteq_official I just had the BEST Support Experience EVER!! Grill wasn’t lighting. Went to the Recteq web site, ran through the WiFi diagnostics and found my RT-1250’s igniter went out. Called the Support Line and Jack picked up. I told him the situation and he instantly pulled up my account based on my phone number, knew my grill details and my address and told me he was shipping me out the part immediately! Now THAT is Excellent Service!! He even explained to me how I can still use my Grill while I wait for my parts!! Recteq ROCKS!!

First of all, I commend you on bettering yourself and continuing your education! Certs are definitely a good way to drive your learning and focus, but are not the end all be all!

As a hiring manager the things I look for are experience and more experience! Any Job, no matter how trivial as it may seem, in this field shines brighter to me than certs or education level.

Here are some things I recommend to jump start things in the right direction:

- LinkedIn - Build your connections! I have found more candidates from my connections on LinkedIn than any other source. If I get a recommendation to “Take a chance” on someone who is recommended by a contact I trust, I am more likely to interview that candidate with an open mind.

- Also on LinkedIn, put it out there that you are seriously looking for a job in this field! Head hunters and hiring managers search for people actively looking and you might get something drop in your lap that you weren’t even considering!

This next one is a biggy… expand your circle. By expand your circle, find and reach out to others that are in the tech field. Maybe there’s a Cert Study Group of folks that are looking to do the same thing you are! Check social media in your area, reach out to folks posting on X about the industry, make yourself known to others. You’ll be surprised as to what people in our industry are willing to share! THIS post is an excellent example of what your should continue to do!!!

Expand your knowledge - It’s great to learn about AWS. But add some Network Fundamentals to the mix! Study for a Cisco or Juniper or Aruba cert. Having a basic understanding of how networking works is going to take you FAR in this industry, especially because not enough people understand that today!

Lastly, and you touched on this already, Put it out to God and pray on it! That will do two things… it’ll help you focus on what you need to do AND it will also give you an “In” with the Big Guy so when you DO finally land that dream job and things go nuts, and they will, you’ll be able to pray even harder to help you through it!! Especially when the network goes down and YOU are the one that needs to fix it! 😁

My aunt had a Timex Sinclair 1000 which I would spend an Inordinate amount of time on learning how it worked!

I the graduated to a Commodore 64 (With a Tape Drive!) and a 300 baud modem!

Upgraded to a 5 1/4” disk drive after that. Then a Commodore 128 and a 1200 baud modem! I was ball’n!!

I researched and decided that I could built my own PC so I picked up a bunch of parts… By Mail Order… and built an I tel 286 system, with a seperate math coprocessor, pimped it out with dual 3 1/2 floppy drives, and a 5 1/4, but also a IS Robotics 9600 baud modem!!! It was Awesome!

My how things have changed… my latest build was a little bit larger… you may have heard of it… No Spoilers.

The only constant in our industry is change! The acquisition of VMWare by Broadcom, although not intuitive on the surface, provides a HUGE opportunity. Yes, there will be redundancies. There will be confusion and uncertainty. I have been through MANY Acquisitions personally and can tell you that the dark days will ALWAYS become clear if you commit to simply doing the best you can to ensure the success of where you are inside the new organization. It’s a challenge. And it is not always easy to spot where the wind will blow but just do whatever you can to engage and embrace the new environment. Broadcom is an incredible company. Read into that statement what you will. But understand that they have build a VERY successful business and do not do things on a whim. Embrace the new and see where it takes you! You’ll be surprised at the results.
